Michael Ian Black, Amy Schumer, John Hodgman, and More Reportedly in Running to Replace Craig Ferguson

It has been stated that CBS will not make any decision until after they upfront presentation on how will take Craig Ferguson’s place at The Late Late Show when he leaves at the end of the year.

However, Michael Ian Black, Jason Jones, Neil Patrick Harris, Aisha Tyler, John Hodgman, Joel McHale, and Amy Schumer are all in rumored to be in consideration for the job.

Given how quickly they got Colbert to replace Letterman, we’d guess that CBS will have someone chosen by the end of May.

Stephen Colbert to Replace David Letterman

Well, CBS isn’t waiting around to see what other choices might surface next year to replace Letterman. They’re putting their money on Stephen Colbert and it’s probably their best bet to compete with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as well as draw a brand new young audience that Colbert has at his command.

This makes us curious to how Colbert will potentially leave his Colbert Report character at Comedy Central.

Following the news of David Letterman retiring from The Late Show, he offered up a poignant story of why he’ll be packing it up in 2015 during last night’s episode.

Apparently, he saw an eagle and, a day later, came to the conclusion that he needed to make a call to Leslie Moonves. Watch David’s official announcement and the story here.

Aside from possible successors or him outlasting Leno, we can only delight to think what Bill Murray will be doing to commemorate his last episode.

Thomas Lennon to Star Opposite Matthew Perry in CBS’ ‘Odd Couple’

The amazing Thomas Lennon could be back on network TV very soon.

It’s been almost no time at all since Sean Saves The World got the ax and he already cast to star opposite Matthew Perry in an Odd Couple reboot pilot over at CBS.

Alyson Hannigan & Tom Papa Cast in Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s CBS Comedy Pilot

The names Ben Affleck and Matt Damon together again should peak your interest along with the pairing of Alyson Hannigan and Tom Papa, but, even more intriguing than that is, if this gets picked up, it will be another thing that Jimmy Kimmel will say that Damon did not write.

Greta Gerwig to Star In CBS Spin-Off Pilot of How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Dad, a spin off of CBS hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, will indeed star as well as be produced and even written by indie comedy darling Greta Gerwig.

No word on whether they will have her dancing and a few episodes tastefully done in black and white, but if this gets picked up with her current level on involvement, this could be great.

The very funny Brooke Van Poppelen from NYC was on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

We’re really glad to both see more stand up on late night as of the past few months (go check Conan, Ferguson, Letterman, Arsenio, etc.) and it’s comedians like Van Poppelen getting to take the stage.

Watch her set here.

During her interview on Letterman, Lena Dunham revealed that she was thoroughly delighted to get a 3rd season of Girls (premiering this Sun. Jan. 12th 10PM on HBO) considering everything she did in season two, suspecting that she had gotten away with enough according to HBO.

With that in mind, Letterman gives her a little more encouragement on doing her own show. Watch the clip here.

Michael Ian Black and Ashley Williams Cast in ‘Gaffigan’

Jim Gaffigan’s CBS comedy project continues to fill out its cast now with the additions of Michael Ian Black and Ashley Williams (How I Met Your Mother).

This project need to make it to TV ASAP as we can already imagine some sort of scene where Black and Gaffigan awkwardly have a stare down.

David Letterman Is “Fascinated” by Ken Burns’ The Address

David Letterman was just blown away by legendary documentary filmmaker Ken Burns ‘The Address’ where several celebrities read The Gettysburg Address in montage. In fact, he liked it so much that he decided to play a clip at The Late Show.

Well, we tried our best to not spoil this quick bit, but CBS’ social media team had other ideas.

CBS Jim Gaffigan Pilot to Have Zimbabwe Catholic Priest Character

Since CBS has revived Jim Gaffigan’s pilot, there’s been some retooling and recasting. This it turns out that Gaffigan’s show will have a Zimbabwean priest, which we’re absolutely sure will add another layer to any food jokes Jim makes.

Brian Regan Made His 26th Appearance on Letterman Last Night

The number “26” itself seems almost like a joke when it comes to the number of anything in comedy as it doesn’t immediately bring anything to mind other than it seems like a lot, especially late night sets.

Yet, comedy legend in the making Brian Regan notched his 26th set on The Late Show with David Letterman, a feat that most comics would laugh about getting to.

See Regan actually do so with his set right here.

Craig Ferguson to Host Syndicated CBS Game Show ‘Celebrity Name Game’

So, Craig Ferguson will be hosting both The Late Late Show as well as this upcoming game show over at CBS, which, we’d hope that he runs as loosely as he does his talk show.

Like the Louis C.K. model has encouraged comedians to produce and distribute specials on their own, would this almost be a result of the Chris Hardwick model of hosting multiple things on TV at once?

Steven Wright and Craig Ferguson Should Have Their Own Show

Every time Steven Wright goes on Craig Ferguson, they play a comedy version of chess in attempting to checkmate each other with how weird they can get and it’s pretty great.

So, one of the best things in late night isn’t even a regular segment. Watch their interview here.

David Letterman Extends CBS Deal Through 2015

We’d hope that David Letterman does something like he did for his 20th Anniversary with Bill Murray to celebrate the occasion of extending his contract and keep doing stuff like that because it was pretty great.

We’d be happy to watch that type of Late Show well through 2015.

CBS Buys Comedy From Jason Winer & Kay Cannon

Modern Family’s Jason Winer and Pitch Perfect/30 Rock’s Kay Cannon are teaming up over at CBS for a single camera comedy project that might be worth keeping an eye on.

Hopefully, CBS keeps the next few comedy projects they pick up for their development slate along the lines of this one.

Tonight, Bill Murray Celebrates David Letterman’s 20th Year at The Late Show

There’s a reason the Internet can conceive to do a supercut of David Letterman’s inside drums joke as Letterman’s hosted the show for over 20 years and tonight’s commemorative episode should be really fun as Letterman’s good pal Bill Murray is stopping by.

Don’t miss the hijinx on CBS at 11:35PM.

Jim Gaffigan Comedy Pilot at CBS Being Redeveloped

We thought it would be kind of impossible that a pilot by Jim Gaffigan would just not get picked up and never be heard of again. Luckily, we were right and CBS hasn’t let it go to another network.

Here’s to hoping we see Gaffigan in a starring role on network television.

As John Oliver is filling in for Jon Stewart over at The Daily Show for the summer, Oliver is deadly terrified of what may happen and thus looking for any advice. While on Letterman last night, Oliver got Letterman’s advice on how to avoid talking about a movie while promoting it, which was pretty great.

In a related story, Brian Williams made a sincere gesture to Jon Stewart last night on The Daily Show to not let this “Oliver Twist” guy take over at the top and end of the interview.

Nathan Fielder Has The Idea to Come Underdressed to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson

Nathan Fielder of the very funny ‘Nathan For You’ on Comedy Central did a panel interview with Craig Ferguson last night.

It was pretty great, even though Nathan was wearing just a plaid shirt (as opposed to Selma Blair’s gorgeous black dress) and, as you guys might know, Nathan loves compliments.

Watch at the link.
