Pick of the Day: Christina Catherine Martinez in Residence (in LA) Tuesdays in March

February 23, 2022
News
catherine christina martinez, elysian theater, la comedy, residency

The summation of her art critic background, penchant for the sublimely absurd in clowning, and her whimsical, class-struggle-informed stand-up is just a bit of why we love and, consequently, write so much about the absolutely splendid Christina Catherine Martinez here at TCB (and elsewhere).

We just got a sneak preview of her upcoming special How To Bake a Cake in the Digital Age and, yet again, was astounded at how cleverly she was defying the form of a comedy special, but still very much getting the jokes out. That’s all to say that is truly something special to see Christina take the stage in any form, no matter what she’s doing/has up her very fashionable sleeves.

So, you should probably go to every one of her residency dates at The Elysian coming next month in March. Christina will be workshopping new performances every Tuesday at the-new-place-to-be in LA comedy at 9PM PT. Tickets are only $12, meaning it would only be $48 for all four shows. Go get tickets to all of them right now right here.

Please Enjoy Christina Catherine Martinez’s Adult White Lady Version of The Little Girl Crying About Lockdown

Earlier this week, there was a home video of a little child crying about all the her favorite places that’s closed because of renewed lockdown orders that have arrived around the globe.

The video went viral and, as if often the case with viral videos, there will be plenty of parodies popping up all around the Internet. Christina Catherine Martinez, who does have a knack for parodying niche characters (her taking the stage as Jean Luc Godard pitching a Paddington the Bear sequel still has us busting up several months after we saw it), did her own version of the tear filled rant, but done as a privileged white lady (at the behest of comedian Marcella Arguello).

The attention to nuance, detail, and performance are stellar and, most importantly, we keep laughing heartily every time we watch it. Please enjoy it here.

The OC’s newest comedy club, The Rec Room in Huntington Beach (7227 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach, CA) is having us here at The Comedy Bureau take over for a night!

So, we’re bringing some of our favorite comedians up from LA for a night where it’s bureau-mandated that you have fun.

Officially joining us will be:
Sara Schaefer (she’s won Emmys)
Chris Fleming (you might have gone and binged watched the web series Gayle)
Catherine Christina Martinez (is successfully bridging the worlds of art and comedy with Aesthetical Relations)

Also, TCB staffer/creator/director Jake Kroeger will be hosting for the evening.

Tickets are $15 with a two-item minimum. Please get them here.

Whether you’re in the Orange County or just somewhat close to the OC or maybe just up here in LA looking for a comedy show from us, you need to go to this and are required to have a good time (we all need a “good time” right now anyway).
