Behold the Clever, Gross-Out, Feminist Satire of Sarah Squirm’s Adult Swim Infomercial “Flayaway”

Sarah Squirm, the ringleader of comedy collective Helltrap Nightmare, does her group proud with a full fledged Adult Swim infomercial that summons her fluid and hair covered imagination and wit to give a “modest proposal” for what the ideal woman should look like.

Even though you’re probably not working right now because of the holidays, we’ll still give you a NSFW warning (though if your work is down for taking the patriarchy they might be cool with it) and a recommendation to perhaps not eat or have just eaten before watching this. The gross out humor is in peak form here and used expertly.

Without further adieu, behold Sarah Squirm’s Flayaway here.

Good vibes are hard to come by these day, but thankfully a new season of weed delivery misadventures and journeys on High Maintenance is coming very soon (Sun. Jan. 20th to be specific).

Get a whiff of what’s to come in this new season’s trailer (and wonder if that’s really a Barack Obama cameo you saw or if you maybe a little too high yourself).

Very simply, many of LA’s best tell their worst jokes that they come up with this year. It’s a great, cathartic way to kick 2018 to the curb. Barbara Gray and Dave Child will be presiding over hosting duties.

As a holiday gift to us all, it’s free to attend. Get more details, full line-up here.

The rest of our listings for comedy shows, events, screenings, open mics, maps, and more can be found at www.thecomedybureau.com.

The Onion Unionizes with WGA East

The Onion Unionizes with WGA East

Well, here is some unequivocal, very non-ironic good news.

Legendary satirical publication The Onion has signed an official contract with the Writers Guild of America East that covers their 69 (we’re guessing that’s not on purpose) employees.

Per Deadline:

The two-year contract includes annual pay increases, minimum pay grades, diversity and anti-harassment language, just cause, union security, editorial independence and intellectual property rights. It also puts an end to “permalancers” – long-term freelancers – through a provision that requires the company to offer them full-time jobs if they contract, fellow or apprentice for the company for 12 consecutive months or 18 cumulative months over a two-year period.

Note that any new positions that open up at The Onion will be even more coveted than before.

Parks and Recreation Will Have a Full 10 Year Reunion at PaleyFest

The entire cast, Mike Schur, and the creative team will all be present together at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for PaleyFest come March 2019.

Undoubtedly, it’ll probably make you tear up like the series finale did, but you have a few months to prepare. FYI, tickets will be on sale for the general public on Jan. 17th. We’ll be sure to remind you of that when it comes around.

Welp, the UCB4 (ostensibly THE Upright Citizens Brigade) are playing the UCB Inner Sanctum (which probably can hold more people than both theaters at UCB Franklin and UCB Sunset combined) next year. So, you might want to mark your calendar for Jan. 12th or watch for more tickets being released as the day of comes closer.

Simon Rich’s Miracle Workers First Trailer Is Here with Steve Buscemi as an Apathetic God and Daniel Radcliffe as an Angel Doing the Best He Can

With Man Seeking Woman, we all got a glimpse of the wildly colorful and clever imagination of one Simon Rich.

Now, Simon’s is upping the ante with his new show over at TBS, Miracle Workers where indeed Steve Buscemi and Daniel Radcliffe along with Geraldine Viswanathan (Blockers) are at odds with each other, God and angels, over the fate of Earth.

Already, there’s a lot of charm that you can see in this first full trailer, especially when it comes to the endless possibilities (almost in Good Place sort of way) to explore within the bloated corporation with which God runs the universe. The very end of this trailer definitely peaked our interest for the series FYI.

In any case, you’ll get your full first taste of Miracle Workers on Tues., Feb. 12th at 10:30PM on TBS.

Somehow, Mike Birbiglia keeps having wonderfully odd things happen to him in his life and distilling it perfectly into a story.

This story told on this week’s Late Night with Seth Meyers is yet another example amongst many of this fact. Please enjoy.

Chelsea Peretti to Host 2019 Writers Guild Awards

Chelsea Peretti to Host 2019 Writers Guild Awards

While The Oscars are still scrambling to find a host, The Writers Guild of America have landed Chelsea Peretti to host their Writers Guild Awards on Feb. 17th.

As you may well know, the Writers Guild Awards are never televised (though clips of the monologues and speeches sometimes find their way online). With that being the case, it’s usually a much more fun affair and a bit more roast-y as well, which will likely suit Chelsea quite nicely.

This will also be the first awards hosting gig for Peretti and pretty much the first big live gig since her recent return to stand-up, which makes us even more intrigued about what she’ll do two months from now.

R.I.P. Penny Marshall, 1943-2018

Today, Hollywood lost one of its bright shining lights in one Penny Marshall.

Big, Laverne & Shirley, and A League of Their Own are all works that could represent a peak of a career in the biz by themselves. Yet, Penny, both in front of and behind the camera made a very long career on and off screen that keep several generations laughing, but offered up a certain kind of hope that we will never forget.

So, take a scroll down Penny’s Filmography and perhaps enjoy watching her work. Lord knows that it’s almost never a bad time to watch Big or a League of Their Own. We’ll definitely let you know if there are any LA screenings coming up.

The beloved compliment contest, Boast Rattle, is attempting something even more grandiose than trying to joke about another comedian in a positive light: joking about 2018 in a positive light.

It’s perfectly named: Boast Rattle Presents: Was It Really That Bad?

There’s an amazing line-up that will attempt this near impossible feat (in case you didn’t know, 2018 was another heap of trash on fire like 2016 and 2017) and might be the best way to close out 2018.

Tickets are $10 right now and $15 at the door. Go get advance tickets here.
