As they’re already set to help record some vinyl comedy albums for Jonah Ray’s Literally Figurative Records, AST Records will record some of their own.

They’re starting with a 7-inch with Dave Ross at The Deer Pile in Denver, CO on Nov. 19th.

Go to this if you can and buy it when it comes out.

The first episode is with Kevin Hart and, as you can imagine, Seinfeld drives a little faster than Hart’s liking.

A Sequel to “Punching The Clown” Is Underway

— Henry Phillips (@Henlips)

November 7, 2014

Five years ago, the hilarious Henry Phillips starred in and co-wrote Punching The Clown, a movie that slowly, but surely became a cult hit on Netflix.

Now, in 2014, with Henry having just shot his comedy special, had one of the best web series of all time under his belt, he and, we hope, the rest of the world is ready for a sequel to Punching The Clown.

Our sources tell us that, indeed, the Punching The Clown sequel has just gone into production and Philips just tweeted the picture above this morning, leaving us to only conclude, unlike so many things that are teased on the Internet, that it’s all actually happening.

So, do yourself a favor and get excited for this, especially as we’ll have more details about cast, etc. coming soon.

Adult Swim’s “Too Many Cooks” Is Why You Should Have Been Up at 4AM This Morning

adult swim, too many cooks

Adult Swim has definitely been really making it clear that they’re a home, a haven, a catalyst, and more for the sort of amazing, bizarre, dark, and funny niche comedy that would never air on a single digit channel on your TV.

Too Many Cooks, which really takes The Greatest Event in Television History and makes it drop acid, aired at 4AM today on Adult Swim and is a perfect example of that.

Please watch it/watch it again now.

ABC Cancels “Selfie” and New Network Comedies Seem Like They Really Can’t Catch a Break

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Must like their film studio counterparts, TV networks are looking for tentpole franchises in their series, hopefully having something that will make it past six seasons and eventually go on to syndication. Series such as Seinfeld, Friends, and The Office running for so long have given credence to this dynamic when it comes to sitcoms.

However, with the explosion of niche comedy and comedy in general via the Internet, the idea of the long-running half hour sitcom seems much harder to start these days. Already in this latest TV season, Manhattan Love Story, A to Z, and Bad Judge have been cancelled.

ABC has added to that list with their axing of Selfie.

There weren’t that many freshman comedies to begin with at the big broadcast networks this fall, leaving us to wonder how marginalized scripted comedy currently is at NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox and how much more it will go that way.

We all were spellbound by her performance that became an album in Live, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many that were in attendance are writing up her show this morning during the New York Comedy Festival that’s happening right now.

We don’t want to ruin the moment of reading exactly what happened as recounted by The New Yorker’s Andrew Marantz, but we’ll say that Tig took baring it all to a whole other transformative, level, per usual.

In anticipation of that, the guests for the final episodes have been teased, which include many of Craig’s favorite guests such as Thomas Lennon, Tim Meadows, Henry Winkler, Rashida Jones, Steve Carell, Lisa Kudrow, Mila Kunis, and more.

For the final send-off, Ferguson will have late night host compatriot Jay Leno as he joins him in late night host retirement.

We hope amidst this cavalcade, one of our favorite guests on The Late Late Show, Stephen Wright will also be stopping by to wish Ferguson bon voyage.

One of Pixar’s most successful, most beloved properties, Toy Story, is coming back for a fourth round in 2017.

Announced today, a Toy Story 4 will have John Lasseter returning to the franchise as a director and the duo of Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are set to write the script. More specifically, the release is being targeted for June 2017.

In case you wondering, that does avoid any matching up with Marvel’s upcoming film slate as well as the Lego Movie sequel.

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s first foray into comedy with Birdman has been very well received in case you haven’t seen the Rotten Tomatoes score, recent TV spots, etc.

Almost seeming like a reward for all the folks that went and saw it, there has been a faux trailer made for an installment of the made-up movie franchise, Birdman, that Birdman’s Riggan Thompson, played exquisitely by Michael Keaton.

Enjoy watching the trailer for “Birdman Returns” like watching a trailer for 90s Jean Claude Van Damme movie after watching JCVD.

If Wes Anderson Maybe Had Enough Money, He Might Just Build a Theme Park

November 6, 2014
Uncategorized

(via Fast Co.Create)

In a foreword of Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia, endearing auteur Wes Anderson puts forth the idea that if he secured enough funding, he’d want a theme park to be entirely put together at the direction of Mothersbaugh, who often scores Anderson’s films.

While that’s a sentiment in a foreword, it only makes one’s mind run with abandon in a symmetrically arranged frame.

Given that Mothersbaugh was a member of Devo and scored Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, the prospect of this particular theme park that would undoubtedly aim to be a sort of whimsical that adults and children can both enjoy is worthy of invoking Futurama once more in saying, “Shut up and take my money”.

Going away from the incredibly grounded reality of his last two movies , Alexander Payne is going a tad fantastical with his next movie, “Downsizing”.

Starring Matt Damon, the film will follow a man who thinks life would be better if he shrunk himself.

This idea, which might also lean more comedically than The Descendants and Nebraska, with Payne at the helm and Damon getting top billing seems prime to be another award frontrunner from the maker of perennial award frontrunners.
