ABC To Have Another Holiday ‘Toy Story’ TV Special

Not that it would be surprising, but ABC seemed to have success enough with a Halloween Toy Story special that it’s going forward to have another one for Christmas.

If this keeps on going, maybe ABC will make one for Columbus Day.

And so, Kurt Braunohler joins the exclusive club of comedians that are topics for quiz show trivia along with Pete Holmes.

Perhaps, they’ll have smoking jackets made like SNL’s Five Timer Club?

Jimmy Kimmel Live Going to SXSW

This might be the first time that a late night talk show visits a big time festival for a week of shows. Well, we’re glad that Jimmy Kimmel Live is taping a week of shows at SXSW and we have a feeling that Kimmel is going to pull out all the stops for fake band names and asking if SXSW goers have seen them.

After Epix Botched Launch, You Can Now Watch Patton Oswalt: Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time Now

Patton Oswalt’s latest comedy special Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time was supposed to be available last night, but Epix seemed to have dropped the ball as evidenced by this tweet by Patton. In the time between then and now, Patton began to tweet “what happened” during his special until it just surfaced at Epix.

So, there’s Patton actual (click through to watch at Epix at link) and Twitter rant versions of Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time now.

NBC latest addition to their development slate this pilot season is Mission Control from Will Ferrell & Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions that’s something like an Anchorman set at NASA and Love is Relative from Borat’s Dan Mazer.

There’s lots of interesting stuff that we’d like to some series from.

Maria Bamford to Have Residency at Comedy Palace LA

The Comedy Palace at The Palace Restaurant in Los Feliz here in LA has become a great late night destination to see comedy on Thursdays for free and now has one more reason to make sure you stop by and watch.

The wonderful Maria Bamford is going to start doing a residency starting tonight, doing 20 min. every week around 9:15PM, before the usual start of the show.

Trust us, the show is already great, especially tonight, but you’re going to definitely want to catch the magic of Bamford in residency.

Showtime Picks Up Philip Seymour Hoffman Comedy ‘Happyish’ to Series

Showtime will now have Happyish, a dark comedy from Phillip Seymour Hoffman, as part of their line-up.

There are few details and the description of the series is kind of broad at this point, but, with Phillip Seymour Hoffman behind this, Happyish might be really great (and hopefully won’t be confused with the extremely dark Happiness, which Seymour was also in).

Rebecca Miller & Greta Gerwig Team For ‘Maggie’s Plan’

Greta Gerwig who has carved herself into an indie comedy force is onto her next project, Maggie’s Plan with director Rebecca Miller, a film that sounds like it’s not very far from the wheelhouse of Frances Ha.

Given how much we loved Frances Ha (it’s on our 100 Best Things in Comedy We Were Witness To In No Particular Order of 2013), we have no problem with this at all.

Zach Galifianakis To Star In and Co-Write Louis C.K. Pilot at FX/FXx

Well, if you had to formulate to make one of the most anticipated pilots of the entire pilot season, having Zach Galifianakis team up with Louis C.K. is a really good way to it. As part of his development deal, C.K. has done just that for FX/FXx.

There are no details as what the pilot might be, which makes us think that C.K. might be playing it so close to the chest that FX/FXx might not even know.

Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo Book ABC Comedy Pilot

There isn’t really any vacationing according to the description of the pilot, but that still doesn’t take away from the hope that a Griswold reunion could bring about since Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo are together again for this ABC comedy pilot.

Let’s hope that it’s more like Vegas Vacation and less like Modern Family since ABC has that Modern Family base covered..

For the “comedy” movie categories, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street, Spike Jonze for Her, Amy Adams for American Hustle, and American Hustle took their respective Golden Globes.

We pretty much enjoyed all these winners throughout all last year and glad to see newcomer Brooklyn Nine Nine get a win over perennial favorites.

White House Addresses Jimmy Kimmel’s China Joke

Thanks to thousands upon thousands of people outraged last year over a joke apparently “at China’s expense” during a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The White House had to take the time to not deal with more pressing matters and say that they can’t cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live because of the right to free speech.

Good job all of you outraged enough at an joke that hinges on its high level of absurdity to ignore the problems with healthcare, social security, etc. etc. on not knowing the U.S. government doesn’t have the time or could care less about shutting down something like Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Oh, in case you couldn’t figure it out in the previous sentence because you were a person that signed that petition, we were being sarcastic.

Too much time has passed from when the last season of Veep ended and for Mike Judge’s live action HBO series Silicon Valley featuring TJ Miller, Kumail Nanjiani, Thomas Middleditch, and more.

Thankfully, there’s premiere dates for both of those shows in April so we know exactly how long we have to fidgeting until they hit the air.
