The Disaster Artist Highlights Why “The Room” Is an All-Time Best/Worst Movie Classic

When it comes to bad movies, especially when you’re watching them ironically, there comes a time when you notice a difference between movies that were just half-assed, movies that were made with the intentions of greatness, and then, movies that are intentionally made to be bad.

For us, we really only enjoy the second kind as there is something special in an artistic vision that ignores pretty much all the rules and every voice of reason and logic at all times. Manos: The Hands of Fate and The Room serve as two of the best examples of that, which earns them that special label of “best/worst”.

While some debate the overarching vision of The Room (i.e. whether Wiseau was aware of what he was making something so bad it’s good), James Franco precisely hones in on Wiseau’s genuine obsession of making a legitimately great drama with The Disaster Artist. Franco also plays Tommy Wiseau so perfectly there are brief moments where you almost think it’s really Wiseau. He really makes such the cartoonish, impression-of-a-tortured-artist that embodies Tommy’s persona into something human and, for that, makes one damn fun movie.

Also, almost all the cameos are of comedians including appearances by Nathan Fielder, Hannibal Buress, and the How Did This Get Made? crew of Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas (who, of course, did an ep. on The Room).

So, go see The Disaster Artist as soon as you can before the rest of the big budget holiday fare takes over a theater near you.

Revel in How Much James Franco Looks and Sounds Like Tommy Wiseau in the Second Trailer for “The Disaster Artist”

Really, it’s uncanny how spot on James Franco is in playing in Tommy Wiseau for the film adaptation of The Disaster Artist, a book that tells the story of the making of best/worst cult classic The Room made by Wiseau.

See for yourself in the new trailer.

Maybe, there will be a post-credits scene of Franco doing The Tommy Wi-Show?

Look for The Disaster Artist in theaters on December 1st.

Looks Like James Franco Really Brings Tommy Wiseau and the Story Behind “The Room” with “The Disaster Artist” to Life

Tommy Wiseau’s The Room holds a special place in cinematic history much in the same way Florence Foster Jenkins once did for opera.

Just like Florence Foster Jenkins got a pretty good biopic about how her awful singing was celebrated, the story behind The Room, from which the best selling book The Disaster Artist was written by Greg Sestero, is similarly getting a movie of the same name directed by and starring James Franco.

From the looks of the first full trailer, Franco really gets into the whole world of Wiseau, both emphatically and honestly. Also, James’ brother playing Wiseau’s friend adds another fun layer to this whole thing.

The Disaster Artist will play in theaters on December 1st.

First came the cult best/worst movie The Room from Tommy Wiseau. Then, came the book about the making of The Room called The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero. With so many different facets to the myth of both Wiseau and The Room, the making of feature film adaptation of why any of this happened seemed inevitable.

Now, that time is here as James Franco’s movie based on The Disaster Artist is set for a theatrical release on December 1st.

Franco, as it would appear, seems to do a pretty good job as Wiseau.

See for yourself in the trailer (and also enjoy a supporting cast of Seth Rogen, Dave Franco, Paul Scheer, and Charlyne Yi).

A24 Is Giving a Theatrical Release James Franco’s Comedy About the Making of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, “The Disaster Artist”

Yes, James Franco really did make a comedy, The Disaster Artist, about the making of the cult comedy, “best worst” movie The Room from Tommy Wiseau. After making noise on the festival circuit, A24 has opted to give it a release in theaters for a possible awards run.

We’re on board that move for two reasons. One, it’s a comedy making head way into awards contention that always biases towards heartbreaking drama and two, it’s a nifty sounding alternative to whatever holiday fare is playing at most multiplexes.

We’re looking forward to seeing if The Disaster Artist can fulfill the plenty that its promising.

Two Years Later, ‘The Interview’ Remains Google Play’s Highest Selling Movie Ever

If there was no Sony Hack, we have a feeling that this headline above would have probably not happened. Having seen it, we think it the satire could have reached higher with its aims of poking fun at the North Korean regime. 52% at Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic would suggest a similar feeling from critics.

The Interview streamed on Netflix for two years and still made top sales, which suggests to us that many folks bought The Interview as a political act.

At some point, someone will make another North Korean satire (especially if the recent defector is right about the reach of outside information making its way inside North Korea). If it’s someone on the level of Armando Iannucci or Iannucci himself, we can barely imagine what that situation will be like.

As part of Seth Rogen’s annual big, celebrity filled Hilarity for Charity event to raise money to promote awareness and fight Alzheimer’s Disease, he put his buddy James Franco up to getting a Bar Mitzvah.

The whole event was taped in front of a live audience, full of bits as well as performances from Ron Funches, Kyle Kinane, Justin Willman, Miley Cyrus, and more.

We’re not kidding as you can see clearly in this trailer.

If you’re looking to see how the rest of Franco’s Bar Mitzvah went, you’ll have to look for it on Verizon’s go90 coming up soon.

In season one, they got weird with movies, so they’re on to getting weird with TV series including Freaks and Geeks.

James Franco’s experimental mash-up series Making a Scene on AOL Originals made for some really great, really weird hybrids like When Harry Met Sally being mashed-up with When Harry Met Sally to create When Harry Met Harry.

With the second season on the way, Franco and company have opted to mash-up random genres and some of your favorite TV shows including Married with Children, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, the aforementioned Freaks and Geeks that Franco starred in, Seinfeld, and more.

Watch the trailer for season 2 of Making a Scene here, then look for new episodes on Sept. 9th.

So, would the theme be paintings of Seth Rogen by James Franco?

The latest big time show for Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity organization, which raises money to fight against and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, will indeed be a bar mitzvah for one of his best friends and frequent co-star, James Franco.

We wouldn’t be surprised at all if Franco actually does an actual reading of the Torah given his penchant of juggling his many areas of study.

The event is set to take place at the Hollywood Palladium on Oct. 17th and will undoubtedly be a very exclusive event to get into.

We’re hoping that they’ll get weirder.

Amidst the dozens of things that James Franco juggles, his Making a Scene web series on AOL was one of the stranger, funnier things that Franco’s done. Genres, famous movies, characters, etc. were all mashed up to produce a scene with Batman and Beetlejuice or the diner scene from When Harry Met Sally except that Harry is meeting is Harry.

For the second season, fans will get to submit their favorite scenes from TV shows and they’ll go mashing up from there.

Something in the neighborhood of Breaking Bad and Arrested Development would definitely be fun to see.

The result? A bizarre alternate universe wonder that they come up with called When Harry Met Harry. Please enjoy here.

“The Interview” Gets a New Trailer with More Kim Jong-Un

Despite the declarations by North Korea against The Interview starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, there is a brand new trailer today that the North Korean government will not likely be happy with either since more of their current leader Kim Jong-Un is featured.

We couldn’t care less what North Korea thinks about it. as we get to see more of Randall Park, who we hope you’ve seen in Channel 101, Newsreaders, Veep, and so much more, plays the role Kim Jong-Un.

Give it a watch here.

Over the last couple of a months, there has been tension from North Korea over Sony PIctures’ The Interview starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

Yesterday, a red band trailer was posted that gives us all a better picture of what North Korea is getting so steamed over as well as the duo, reminiscent of when they teamed up in Pineapple Express, that Rogen and Franco are playing that are tasked with assassinating Kim Jong-Un.

So, maybe they don’t like all the rampant sexual innuendo?

You could have a game show style wheel to pick one of the multitude of different things that James Franco does, but, in AOL’s case, he’s just getting a random classic scene from the cinematic canon from the same style of wheel and mashing it up with a genre or another classic film scene.

It’s called “Making a Scene” and it’s the reason that this pretty great, weird, mash up between Batman and Beetlejuice now exists.

The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell tells the story of how Tommy Wiseau rose to fame, though probably not in the way that he thought he would, by making the infamous movie known as The Room.

James Franco is now adapting that book into a full length feature where he will play Wiseau and is having powerhouse screenwriting duo Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber write the adaptation. Franco does want Wiseau involved, but only in a finite capacity.

The trailer for this will undoubtedly go viral.

Sony Changing Military Uniform Buttons and, Possibly, Face Melting in ‘The Interview’

(NOTE: Spoilers possibly ahead) The Interview starring James Franco and Seth Rogen has been a hot button movie for Sony ever since it was first announced. Being fiercely decried by North Korea for its plot that follows the assassination of Kim Jong-Un, Sony has already moved back the release date to Christmas from October.

Now, they will be altering uniform buttons that the depicted North Korean military wears as well as thinking about changing a scene where Kim Jong-Un’s face is melted off.

Some of the reasoning behind these changes have been cited as “clearance issues” rather than political pressure, but who gets clearance from a military and a leader of a country that keeps contact with the U.S. to a minimum? Have higher-ups in North Korea have not seen the multitudes of web videos satirizing North Korea in a similar way?

More importantly, would North Korea really try to start a war over a movie?

The Interview with Seth Rogen and James Franco Moved to Christmas Release Date

Despite North Korea’s protestations against the movie’s subject matter that focuses on killing Kim Jong-Un, Sony is moving the release of The Interview starring Seth Rogen and James Franco back to a bigger release date, Christmas.

Originally, the movie was slated for release in early October, but Sony is lining up its Christmas weekend offering for The Interview, where it’ll play against the third installment of The Hobbit franchise and more.

This will also give North Korea two more months to further decry the movie, though we’re not sure how much more they could say outside of an “act of terrorism”.

North Korea Is Calling ‘The Interview’ An Act of Terrorism

North Korea continues to be outraged about the upcoming spy assassination comedy The Interview with Seth Rogen and James Franco. In fact, they’ve gone so far as to call it “an act of terrorism” and “a war action”.

We think that’s a bit of stretch, but, apparently, “If the U.S. administration connives at and patronizes the screening of the film, it will invite a strong and merciless countermeasure,” according to a North Korea’s Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Well, if that strong and merciless countermeasure is a film where they go after Obama, it would be interesting to see where they will find a black actor in North Korea.

North Korea Isn’t Happy With Seth Rogen-James Franco Comedy ‘The Interview’

The subject of the spy comedy farce, North Korea, is not amused by the fictionalized attempt by characters played by James Franco and Seth Rogen to attempt to assassinate Kim Jong-un in The Interview. That’s what Kim Myong-choi, executive director for the Centre of North Korea-U.S. Peace, which we had no idea was a thing that existed, thinks anyway.
Still, Kim Jong-un reportedly plans on seeing it anyway. Myong-choi also added the dig “that James Bond movies are better than Hollywood films.”
Perhaps, North Korea will make a movie in response in a sort of “filmic cold war” and this all becomes something that Armando Iannucci fictionalizes?

Seth Rogen and James Franco team up yet again for an action packed comedy in The Interview coming out in October. This time, they’re not taking on drug cartels or the Apocalypse against all odds, but rather North Korea, also against all odds.

Rogen and Franco play spies who are attempting to take out North Korea’s Kim Jong Un which you can see here in the trailer.

This has us wondering if Franco and Rogen, as an action duo, will ever cross paths with the other popular action comedy duo right now, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.

Well, we’re already wanting to see this in theaters without a trailer.
