Ziwe Fumudoh Scores Deal for Book of Personal Essays

August 12, 2020
News

Since Ziwe Fumudoh‘s rise with her IG Live show Baited (again, it’s the only thing you should be watching on Thursdays at 5PM PT/8PM ET @ziwef), we’ve been wondering when, not if, the industry would be begin bidding wars over developing something with her.

Finally, some of that is starting to happen as Ziwe has just signed a book deal with ABRAMS Books for a book of personal essays that will also probably be a pretty good guide to being a guest on an episode of Baited. Ziwe is underway on writing the book, but a release date is TBA for the time being.

In the meantime, you can get your Ziwe fix with her album Generation Ziwe, watching any and all of Baited (including the original YouTube episodes), and catch Desus & Mero.

Please Enjoy the Music Video for Ziwe Fumudoh’s Banger “Universal Healthcare”

As more of the world gets acquainted with the brilliance of Ziwe Fumudoh every week with her IG Live interview show, Baited with Ziwe (again, we’ll say that it might be the series going right now regardless of platform), it should stand to reason that you should explore the rest of her work

That includes her musical comedy album, produced by Amar Ibrahim, Generation Ziwe (streaming wherever you get music) features biting satire about such crucial issues like Universal Healthcare. In fact, one of the tracks is indeed called “Universal Healthcare” and Ziwe goes in hard on America’s horribly flawed healthcare system. There’s a delightful, Daria-inspired, accompanying music video, animated by Mary Houlihan, released this week.

Bop your head to the song and music video here (and, in case it wasn’t clear, get into everything that Ziwe does and watch Baited on Thurs. 5PM PT/8PM ET @ziwef on Instagram)

Ziwe Fumudoh’s Latest “Baited” Interview with Caroline Calloway Is Hysterical, Wild, and Crucial

June 19, 2020
News
baited, caroline calloway, ziwe fumudoh

Part of the work that is supposed to be done right now in dismantling white supremacy is having conversations that show every bit of it in all of its forms whether it be a small wrinkle of it or an outlandish mess.

That’s part of what Ziwe Fumudoh‘s weekly Instagram live-stream Baited (that stems from a show that she did in the past) accomplishes as she interviews non-black allies about their engagement and commitment to racial equity. Ziwe does an exquisite job in keeping the tension throughout every interview, never letting up on hilariously challenging the views of her guests at every turn, making for some great, often cringe-worthy, unsure answers from self-identified allies.

This latest edition of Baited illustrates this magnificently with guest, Caroline Calloway, a noted influencer and self-admitted controversial one to boot. Their conversation was the perfect crystallization of the moment that we’re having right now in America and across the globe. We are all reckoning with all of our unconscious biases and continuing to potentially put our foot in our mouths as we start to become more aware of said biases. These growing pains are showcased throughout their entire conversation, proving how necessary they are, and, if anything, a reflection of how much more of the work that needs to be done. Calloway seems to put herself as a sacrificial lamb for white guilt, almost knowing that she’s going to slip up before hand, which, for what is supposed to be a satirically comedic interview, makes for something explosive and almost unbelievable.

We’ll let the interview (embedded in 5 parts below) do the rest of the talking as we don’t want to spoil the shock you might justifiably have if you haven’t seen it. Also, tune in every Thursday to Baited @ziwef at 8PM PT/5PM ET on Instagram to catch what might very well may be the most important comedy live-stream of 2020.

Pick of the Day: Baited with Ziwe (Thursdays)

News
baited, instagram live, ziwe fumudoh

Even before all the events that took place over the past following week in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Ziwe Fumudoh‘s weekly IG Live show Baited was already a great, hysterical one-on-one conversations on engagement on race with white ally comedians.

Thus, it’s even more critical viewing that you’d should make part of your Thursday afternoons/evenings right now.

Baited with Ziwe goes live on Instagram every Thursday at 5PM PT/8PM ET @ziwef. This next week’s guests are some damn funny white allies: Cole Escola (At Home with Amy Sedaris, Difficult People) and Brad Evans (SNL).
