At 10PM tonight, one of TV Land’s strongest comedy series (and another quality comedy series about teachers getting by), Teachers, returns for season 2.

If you need a taste of what’s to come, here’s a trailer that will let you in on what the whole gang is up to.

TV Land’s Teachers Is Getting a Full Order for Season 3

TV Land is really happy with their original comedy series Teachers.

They’re so happy that they’re giving that rarely-seen-these-days full season order of 20 episodes for season 3 of the show.

This means, we guess, that there is enough room for two single camera cable sitcoms about teachers who are more than a little rough around the edges on television. Remember that, earlier this year, TruTV renewed Those Who Can’t for season 3 too.

If you’re a fan of Full Frontal with Sam Bee and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, you might just want to add Throwing Shade with Bryan Safi and Erin Gibson on TV Land to your regular satirical news watching regimen.

Case in point, they’ve got plenty of segments like this one on the disturbing trend of lesbians being killed off on scripted TV series.

Specifically, Teachers will be at 10PM and Throwing Shade at 10:30PM just in case you decide to watch it live on air rather than find it streaming somewhere later.

If all goes well, TV Land might have found new ground to stand on with the ever increasing field of cable TV comedy.

“Heathers” TV Adaptation Gets Pilot Order at TV Land

In its dive into original programming, TV Land is definitely distancing themselves, in regards to tone, content, etc., from the old reruns more and more.

The latest development for original comedy over at TV Land is the upgrade of a TV adaptation of the 1988 dark comedy Heathers from a script order to a full pilot order. Interestingly, it’ll be an anthology series as opposed to following a single group of ‘heathers’ and be written by Jason Micallef, the writer of the dark comedy Butter.

Given Winona Ryder’s recent return to the limelight from Stranger Things, we also have to imagine that she’ll make some sort of cameo.

Jim and Jeannie Gaffigan Are Ending “The Jim Gaffigan Show”

While we would have liked to have seen more of The Jim Gaffigan Show, we are glad to hear that Jim and Jeannie are ending the show on their terms.

Keep in mind that Jim was balancing this show, his stand-up, writing books, and, of course, having his big, lovely family and that he could make a quality sitcom with all of that is amazing.

So, Throwing Shade is getting the shine it deserves?

The great topical and pop culture podcast Throwing Shade helmed by Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi has just gotten a big upgrade.

That’s almost too perfect?

Season 2 of The Jim Gaffigan Show is set to premiere on June 19th at 10PM on TV Land. That just happens to be the same exact day as Father’s Day this year.

While airing on Sunday in primetime is a valuable slot these days, we’re guessing that this is no coincidence.

ABC seems pretty happy with their comedy slate.

Save for The Muppets, Dr. Ken, Galavant, and Last Man Standing, ABC has announced the renewal of the rest entire comedy line-up today. That includes Modern Family for its 8th season, The Middle, also for its 8th season, Fresh Off the Boat for its 3rd season, Black-ish, also for its 3rd season, and The Goldbergs for its 4th season.

Considering how quick the ax is brought down on series at other networks these days, this is a pretty big milestone for the broadcast network.

Also, TV Land’s freshman series Teachers will live to see a sophomore season.

Maybe this is a sign of the tides of cancelling new comedy series is changing? We certainly hope so.

Kelly Oxford and Molly McNearney Are Developing Semi-Autobiographical Sitcom at TV Land

Quietly, TV Land is building a formidable line-up of comedies.

Already, TV Land has gotten critical acclaim for The Jim Gaffigan Show and Younger. They’ve also got the intriguing single camera sitcom following George Lopez coming up and now they’ve added a project from author and Twitter giant Kelly Oxford and Jimmy Kimmel Live’s co-head writer Molly McNearney.

This project will follow both of their lives, which is a slight turn in terms of all the sitcoms that currently centers on the lives of comedians (Louie, Master of None, Dice, the aforementioned Lopez, etc.). Focusing on the lives of writers, being women in comedy, and best friends should make this show stand out should it go to series.

After stand-up, a multi-cam sitcom, and a late night talk show, George Lopez is now on to his own single camera “docu-follow” comedy series that follows his trials and tribulations, perhaps taking a couple of cues from Louie and Master of None, as one of the biggest Latino comedy stars that there has ever been.

Watch the very first teaser/promo here, then look for the series to premiere Wed. Mar. 30th on TV Land.

We thought this would happen a lot sooner.

While not on a broadcast or a premium cable network or FX or Netflix or Amazon, The Jim Gaffigan Show has been faring quite well at its home on TV Land.

So, it’s going to get another season from the network and we’ll get to see more of Michael Ian Black get to throw some great shade at Jim for several more episodes.

TV Land’s rebranding seems to be going alright.

The Jim Gaffigan Show and Younger have been bright spots for the new TV Land.

Now, they’re on to expand their comedy offerings and stand out in an ever-increasing number of non-broadcast comedy networks with a new project from the comedy duo of Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone.

Friends with Melissa will contrast the varying careers of Groundlings alums ranging from her fame and fortune to being stuck writing for children’s TV.

If done right, this could be kind of like Curb Your Enthusiasm from a different angle with the lovable McCarthy at the forefront.

In another case where broadcast networks let a huge comedy star and their show go to cable, Jim Gaffigan got a series order for The Jim Gaffigan Show at TV Land and Comedy Central a few months ago.

Given the nature of how unstable TV is these days, you can never be too sure (like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that was already ordered as a series by NBC then sold to Netflix) if anything is going to make it on air until it actually makes it on air.

However, Gaffigan tweeting about his show, complete with a title card where he’s attempting to deal with his kids, happening next year both at TV Land and Comedy Central is most reassuring.

Once the land of sitcom reruns, TV Land is now pushing forward into more original series. This week, they’ve picked up two new series, which are Teachers, executively produced by Alison Brie, and Impastor. They both also single camera comedies, a sharp contrast to what used to constitute a large portion of their programming.

In addition to TruTV rebranding as a more comedic channel, the TV comedy landscape seems to get wider and wider every day.
