To do a live comedy show for 8 years is a feat, but try upping the ante to doing it in a romance novel only store and franchise it to the the romance novel store’s second location all the way across the country, THEN record an entire album. That has been the trajectory of Romantic Comedy, the long running comedy show at the wondrous gem that is The Ripped Bodice and we talk to co-host/co-creator Jenny Chalikian about what’s been integral to Romantic Comedy’s success.

Follow Romantic Comedy @romcomshow, Jenny @jchalikian, and Erin Judge @iamerinjudge. Get Live at The Ripped Bodice here starting this Friday.

Todd Strauss-Schulson, Director of Meta Horror Comedy Final Girls, Will Take His Unique Talents to Meta Rom Com “Isn’t It Romantic”

Two years ago, Todd Strauss-Schulson wowed us with The Final Girls in how he expertly, and literally, turned the slasher film genre inside out.

Along the same lines, Isn’t It Romantic has Rebel Wilson finding herself in actual rom com world making Strauss-Schulson kind of a perfect choice to helm the film.

We’re imagining this will be like They Came Together, but taken to the nth degree and thus, we can’t wait to see what Todd cooks up.

It’s not often you get to hear about a love triangle in a romantic comedy where the triangle gets reversed.

Yet, that’s what Maggie/Greta Gerwig’s plan is in Maggie’s Plan from Rebecca Miller.

The trailer promises some good, screwball fun between Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, a delightfully accented Julianne Moore, and Maya Rudolph.

Look for it in theaters soon.

Romantic Comedy Moments Are Often Creepy in Real Life Just as Shown by Alexandra Kern

With beautiful people, perfect lighting, perfect wardrobe, written lines, and multiple takes, actors in a romantic comedy can make you completely believe in a fictionalized way of meeting the love of your life.

Of course, movies are far away from real life, even when they’re based on true stories. As that’s the case, Alex Kern’s SingleDumb web series shows how one typical rom com scene is not so alluring when attempted in reality.

Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Rights to Woody Allen’s ‘Magic in the Moonlight’

Another beautiful destination in the French Riviera around the 1920’s plus Woody Allen equals Allen’s next film Magic In the Moonlight, a romantic comedy that could make a start for a case of a whole french romantic period in the director’s career.

As Sony Pictures Classics has gotten the rights to the film in North America, we shall see.

Cameron Crowe’s Romantic Comedy To Have Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and More

By now, ensemble cast romantic comedies should be a little bit of a red flag, but with Cameron Crowe attached as well as rounding a cast of Jay Baruchel, Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams, Alec Baldwin, Emma Stone, and Danny McBride should make for something noteworthy.

1) You could win $10,000 for one punchline on FunnyForMoney.com [via Laughspin.com]

2) The Comedy & Magic Club has been around for 33 years. Got to respect that, especially when they’re hardly mentioned in the same sentence with the Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store, Hollywood Laugh Factory, and the Ice House.

3) Though Nate Bargatze didn’t get to perform last night on Conan (he will get to very soon and we’ll remind you), you can catch Jarrod Harris, another amazing member of the former Southern Comedy Quartet Tour comprised of Rory Scovel, Sean Patton, Nate, and Jarrod on Lopez Tonight next week on Thurs. July 28th TBS MIDNIGHT.

4) Ever get a sticker from comedian Greg Barris? Learn it’s real origin.

Fuck You, I'm Batman

5) The LAist on the coolest show that you can’t go to (because it’s invite only) at Hot House, a concept that would only work in LA or NY.  We’d also like to add that one Marie Colette does a damn fine job putting the show together every month.

6) If you wondered what happened exactly at Holy Fuck this past Tuesday, here’s their words. If you don’t know what Holy Fuck is, go to the Downtown Independent Theater at 251 S. Main St., Los Angeles, CA on a Tuesday that’s preferably very soon at 9PM.

7) Lost faith in romantic comedies? Here’s a list we made on Laughspin that might help with that.

8) Puddin’-“Goat” w/guest Laura Silverman (Possibly one of our favorite Puddin’ episodes thus far)
