In case you missed it yesterday, Pretty Good Friends Records is going to be the newest cool comedy record label to come around in quite some time. Eugene Mirman, Julie Smith Clem, Areti Papazoglou, and Sub Pop Records are all teaming up to venture out on what is still an exciting “wild west” of sorts in comedy, comedy albums.

To christen their operation, they’re throwing a launch party/show at the Bell House in Brooklyn on Wed. Nov. 16th at 7:30PM that will also debut their very first release, Maeve Higgins’ A Very Special Woman. PGF Records’ Eugene Mirman and their pretty good friends Bobcat Goldthwait, Marie Faustin, and, of course Maeve Higgins, will all be performing to make it one damn fine inaugural night for a comedy record label.

Tickets are $30.57 including fees. Go snag them right here right now.

Pretty Good Friends Is Going to Become Comedy’s Newest Record Label

The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival is already a pretty great calling card for a comedy collective and if you’re going from that to starting a record label, you’re probably going to be off to a pretty great start.

Such is the case with Pretty Good Friends who are shifting their efforts from live and film production to also becoming a comedy record label, seemingly along the lines of AST Records or Blonde Medicine. Already, they’ve got releases in the pipeline from Bobcat Goldthwait, Maeve Higgins, and Jon Glaser. We’re biased, but we’re thrilled to see that there will be a new label just dedicated a comedy, especially when it’ll be distributed by the crème de la crème of cool kids record labels, Sub Pop Records.

Mirman, in the most Mirman-esque way, on launching PGF, “One of the most exciting things about starting a comedy record label for fun with your friends is the array of confusing lawsuits happening around audio rights right now. But we are committed to endeavors that make little sense business-wise, but give us opportunities to hang out with friends and make stuff that makes us laugh.”

Just off the tail of New York Comedy Festival wrapping up, there will be a Pretty Good Friends Records launch party at the hallowed stage at The Bell House on 11/16. Get tickets here before they likely sell out quick.

Tig Notaro Launches Her Own Record Label and Is Starting Off with a Release from Aparna Nancherla

We say “yes” to all of this.

After a number of releases off of Secretly Canadian, Tig Notaro is launching an imprint label called Bentzen Ball Records.

The name of the label comedy from “…a guy named Ole Bentzen who apparently died of a heart attack from laughter while watching A Fish Called Wanda,” says Notaro. It’s kind of a perfect story for the name of a comedy record label.

On top of that, the first release should be a doozy as it will be the first album from the fantastic Aparna Nancherla. Called Just Putting It Out There, it will come out July 8th..

See a preview of it here.

So, keep an eye on Bentzen Ball Records in the months to come.

Team Coco Records has officially made their launch today and already is releasing their first album with Ian Edwards’ debut comedy album 100% Half Assed. You can purchase a digital download for the nice price of $5.

We think you should get in on Edwards album because he’s hilarious, Team Coco is great, and Team Coco Records tagline is "Making Comedy Albums Since, Like, Five Minutes Ago".
