Mythic Quest Follows Up Best Quarantine Ep. of TV with Their Most Ambitious Season Yet

It will probably go down in television history that Mythic Quest pulled off the best, most engaging episode of TV that was shot remotely due to COVID-19 lockdown. So many shows tried and missed the mark, but leave it to Rob McElhenney to figure that one out right before he inspired all of North Wales with gifting Wrexham a dream football team with Ryan Reynolds and make a whole other show about that.

Season 3 of Mythic Quest is just due out a month from now and, by the likes of the scale of this trailer, you’d have no idea that Rob was co-chairman of a Welsh football team. These upcoming episodes will see the original creators of the Mythic Quest game take on the company they left high and dry. Apparently, there’s a tank in this season?

See all of that for yourself here with the season 3 Mythic Quest trailer, then look for new episodes to begin streaming on Apple TV+ starting Fri. Nov. 11th.

Mythic Quest to Have Another Very Special Pandemic Related Episode Before Season 2

Lots of TV shows have opted to not talk about the pandemic or, alternatively, talk about as if it has already ended. AppleTV+’s satirical video game workplace comedy, Mythic Quest, opted to be one of a handful of shows that made a special quarantine episode (they shot it all on, of course, iPhones). They did indeed strike a crucial balance of maintaining the rambunctious energy of their show as well as having one of the more heartfelt moments, thus far, across all of scripted TV attempting to tell stories about the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, as the vaccine rollout continues and that there is some sort of return to the world that’s potentially coming, it’s undoubtedly going to be a strained period to adjust to life yet again just as we all were used to having it thrown into some sort of chaos over the last year. Mythic Quest is thus going to have another very special episode called “Everlight” to address this transition, possibly setting the bar/tone for other shows looking to touch on the dimming of the pandemic. Like their quarantine episode, this will stand alone from both season 1 and the upcoming season 2.

Co-creator and star Rob McElhenney noted, “‘Everlight’ is a special episode that addresses the practical and emotional difficulties of returning to normalcy. It’s full of hope and joy and optimism for a bright future. Ahead of our upcoming second season, we felt it was the perfect way (and the perfect time) to invite the audience back into the world of ‘Mythic Quest.’”

Maybe, as a result, more shows will talk about COVID-19? Maybe they won’t (as plenty of folks are very vocal about not wanting to hear about quarantine, pandemics, etc. when binge watching anything over the last several months).

We’ll see, especially when Mythic Quest’s Everlight premieres on Fri. Apr. 16th on AppleTV+.

Watch Rob McElhenney Become an Ego Maniacal Game Designer in Trailer for “Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet”

It’s hard to not watch this trailer for Apple TV+’s new comedy Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet and think of It’s Always in Sunny Philadelphia (it gets posted as a credit) and imagine the episode title reading “Mac Ruins a Video Game Franchise”.

What’ll be interesting to see here is how much of those It’s Always Sunny sensibilities stay intact for this series over at Apple TV+, who we’re sure are doling out big bucks to produce this show and snag the likes of McElhenney and company and are definitely a different beast than FX.

Also, it should be noted that Aparna Nancherla gets to show off how great she plays an apathetic employee once more. Hopefully, that happens plenty during the whole show.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet premieres on Apple TV+ on Feb. 7th.
