Pick of the Day: Uptown Showdown-Cats vs. Dogs (in NYC w/Livestream) 10/11

The debate of whether cats or dogs are the best furry companion to have in life will be a never ending debate that largely depends on your personality. Still, hearing NYC very best comedians debate the topic ought to be great fun (though it does feel like there’s a slight majority of cat people amongst comedians).

Uptown Showdown at Symphony Space is indeed inviting the much heralded comedic minds of Jo Firestone, Peter Grosz, Alison Leiby, Monroe Martin III, Jaye McBride, and Kenice Mobley to fiercely debate this very divide between the top of the domesticated animal pyramid with Matthew Love hosting. That’s quite the line-up that would take an argument that would probably be pretty entertaining to an entirely other level that you will make it worth the trip to the Upper West Side.

This edition of Uptown Showdown is set for Tues. Oct. 11th at 7PM ET/4PM ET and will be available for livestream as well. Tickets are going for $16 and you really ought to go get them here right now.

Well, Christmas Eve is tomorrow and, just like the before times, there are very few comedy shows going on. Yet, there are a handful, which is especially nice in these times where will be as isolated as we’ve ever been in our collective lifetimes and, ostensibly, even less things will be happening as we continue to shelter-at-home.

Gotham Comedy Club in NYC has had a holiday-ish themed comedy show, A Very Jewish Christmas, for decades and they’re going to uphold their tradition to mark a quarter of a century of having a very inclusive holiday comedy show. This virtual edition, presented by RushTix, will feature the likes of NYC’s finest including Monroe Martin, Mike Yard, Jared Freid, and Marion Grodin on Christmas Eve at 5PM PT/8PM ET.

Tickets are $20 and you can snag them here.

With stand-up comedy getting its footing with outdoor shows (wherever they can happen), it was inevitable that a network would make a run at trying to film it in order to have some brand new stand-up content.

Comedy Central went ahead and did another round of their popular stand-up digital series Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring in NYC with a socially distant, masked audience (probably done a little safer than SNL form the looks of it) taped outside. The trailer for this latest batch of exclusive stand-up showcase sets almost resemble something like normal, before-times stand-up, but, of course, the material and the cutaways to the crowd are very much of the moment of the COVID-19 pandemic we’re in right now.

Rosebud Baker, Mary Beth Barone, Brittany Carney, Christi Chiello, Andy Haynes, Josh Johnson, Ismael Loutfi, Gavin Matts, Monroe Martin, Rebecca O’Neal and Eagle Witt all got to take the stage for this very special edition of CC’s digital stand-up series and will very likely have set a precedent of what stand-up comedy will look like for awhile.

Take a look for yourself with the trailer for this round of Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring here, then look for it to start streaming on Comedy Central’s Stand-Up YouTube channel every week starting Dec. 1st.

Sometimes, being on ‘edibles’ in a tense situation is strongly advised against.

However, Monroe Martin found going on a date and discovering that he had mistakenly ingested a cake that was the special kind of ‘edible’ and managed to make the best of it.

He traced all his steps through his drug trip that happened on said date in his set at Live @ The Apt.

MTV2’s panelist show Guy Code is not only on to its fifth season starting Jan. 14th, but it’s adding to a very solid handful of comedians to its roster.

This includes Byron Bowers, Matteo Lane, Fahim Anwar, Matthew Broussard, Monroe Martin, and more.

If you know this group at all, there should be a vastly differing perspective about whatever they’re trying to break down on Guy Code as well as it probably being really funny.
