Pick of the Day: A Scream Queens Comedy & Drag Show (in NYC) 12/30

If your holiday of choice is, far and away, Halloween or really isn’t one that December offers, we feel your pain. The incessant holiday music and forced cheer can be tough, but thankfully there are outlets for an alternative experience for the holidays.

Case in point, A Scream Queens Comedy & Drag Show at Club Cumming. That really doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, New Year’s, Boxing Day, etc. etc.

Indeed, a devilishly themed comedy and drag show is coming to Club Cumming on Fri. Dec. 30th with the likes of Jared Goldstein, Joyelle Nicole Johnson, Shitzprobe, X-Emma, Vicky Deville, and, of course, host Sarah Rachel Lazarus. It’s a hell of a line-up that will fill in that dead week between Christmas and NYE perfectly

Tickets are only $12 and you best go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Looking Forward to It: Pro Choice Candidates (in NYC) 9/27

As it’s National Voter Registration Day today, it’s only fitting that we recommend the comedy show dedicated to voting, Looking Forward to It. Throughout the last couple of years, this show has brought together the very best of the NYC comedy scene to raise funds for voter engagement, which is very much in dire need as it has been for years and years now.
This upcoming edition of Looking Forward to It on Tues. Sept. 27th at Littlefield at 8PM will be specifically supporting Emily’s List, a fund dedicated to pro-choice female candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. Making up any ground from Roe vs. Wade being overturned is a crucial cause and, very likely, abortion access will be the defining issue of this upcoming 2022 Midterm Elections.
So, with all of that in mind, you’ll be supporting essential work as well as enjoying the comedy stylings of Joyelle Nicole Johnson, Michael Cruz Kayne, Karen Chee, and hosts Josh Gondelman and Alison Leiby. Again, they’re some of the most beloved comics in NYC right now.

Tickets are $19.51 and you can and very, very much should go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Bro V Wade: Funny Dudes. Raising Cash. For Abortion. (in NYC) 5/22

Far be it from us to point out a live comedy show with just mostly men on the line-up on International Women’s Day and during Women’s History Month. That said, if the renowned and celebrated men on said line-up were donating their time to raise money for abortion access and reproductive rights via the Lizz Winstead (co-creator of The Daily Show) org  Abortion Access Front and had the fantastic Joyelle Nicole Johnson hosting the whole shin dig, that is a different story.

It’s actually the story of the upcoming comedy charity benefit event Bro V. Wade: Funny Dudes. Raising Cash. For Abortion set for Sun. May 22nd at The Bell House in Brooklyn at 7:30PM ET. The likes of David Cross, Dave Hill, Jon Glaser, John Fugelsang, Josh Gondelman, and Dean Obeidallah are billed and we wouldn’t be surprised if there were more special guests TBA.

FYI: Founded in 2015, Abortion Access Front is a team of comedians, writers and producers that uses humor to destigmatize abortion and expose the extremist anti-choice forces working to destroy access to reproductive rights in all 50 states.

Tickets are $40 and, if you’re in and around NYC, you need to get them here.

Get a First Look at Joyelle Nicole Johnson’s Special “Love Joy”

We had the esteemed privilege of seeing the taping of a secret(?) special of Joyelle’s years ago at the Steve Allen Theater and was really excited to see the world get to see the whip smart, razor sharp, keenly observed, staunchly feminist (meaning inclusive for everyone FYI) humor of one Joyelle Nicole Johnson. Now, we’re not sure how far that special reached, but it deserved to be seen along with any Netflix/HBO special.

Thankfully, Joyelle has got another special, Love Joy, lined-up, this time on the very prominent streaming service, Peacock, come this Fri. Nov. 5th. Also, that notes another very nice point on the board for Peacock’s comedy special slate (including Carmen Christopher’s Street Special and Jo Firestone’s Good Timing)

Get a taste of what’s to come with Joyelle Nicole Johnson’s “Love Joy” here.
