Pick of the Day: The 10 Year Anniversary of the 2012 Apocalypse (in LA) 12/21

December 12, 2022
News
chad damiani, emily browning, girl god, jamie loftus, los angeles, los angeles comedy, nicole neighbors, reshma meister, variety show

Pulling the curtain back here a bit, we’re not huge fans of the holiday seasons. The non-stop mandatory cheer and the slowing down of all things doesn’t sit with us well and makes December more of a month to get through.

Thus, something called “The 10 Year Anniversary of the 2012 Apocalypse” is much more our vibe and thankfully that’s both an actual thing that’s happening and it’s just a very jam packed variety show/party full of great LA indie comedy, music, puppets, last-kiss-of-your-life kissing booth, etc.

Joining in for all our send off will be:

Aubrielle Hvollboll
David Yo-yos
Matthew Goldin and Jay Weingarten
Reshma Meister
Jamie Loftus
Girl God
The Odd Advantage
X-Acto
Eli Farmer
Reshma Meister
Chad Damiani
Emily Browning
Nicole Neighbors

And what a fun early bird price for tickets, $6.66.

The 10 Year Anniversary of the 2012 Apocalypse is set to get going on Wed. Dec. 21st at 8PM at El Cid in Silverlake. Go get your tickets here and get ready for an end to all of this chaos (mostly just the holiday season and not really the world/planet/all life), finally.

Pick of the Day: Made of Bugs with Tim Platt (in LA) 7/23

July 1, 2022
News
Ayo Edebiri, girl god, joe rumrill, la comedy, sketch comedy, tim platt

One of NYC’s comedy treasures is the weird and wonderful talents and comedy of one Tim Platt. Purveyor and performer of charmingly off beat shows including his musical variety show Made of Bugs and the wild Evening of Wedding Speeches where comics give the most unhinged wedding speeches they can, Platt has earned a special place in NYC comedy that you ought to get to any time his putting anything up.

For LA folks, Tim will be making a very special stop at The Yard Theater to bring Made of Bugs to the City of Angels on Sat. Jul. 23rd at 7PM PT. Not only will Tim be bringing himself, but the likes of Ayo Edebiri (that, by now, you’ve should have seen kill it on The Bear), Girl God (your new favorite sketch group), and one of the newer NYC-to-LA transplants/sweet rapscallion, Joe Rumrill will be joining in for the evening.

Tickets are only $10 and you best go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Lance Bangs Presents (in LA) 9/2

June 28, 2022
News
brandon wardell, Caleb Hearon, david gborie, elysian, fred armisen, girl god, ian karmel, la comedy, lance bangs, moses storm, natalie palamides, reggie watts, stand up comedy

If you Google “Lance Bangs”, you’ll first read that he’s an American Filmmaker. While that’s very true, Bangs is also a curator of the underground, seeking out those thrilling voices, often in and around comedy that you hope to bare witness to at a live comedy and/or music show. Having worked with the likes of Jackass to Tyler the Creator to Marc Maron to Nirvana to George Harrison to John Hodgman to his latest work on Moses Storm’s acclaimed HBO special, Trash White, Bangs is one of the most respected figures behind the scenes.

So, the fact that he’s curating a very special night of comedy at The Elysian come Fri. Sept. 2nd should be something you mark down on your calendar immediately, right after you immediately get tickets.

The line-up features some of the best folks he’s worked with that happen to be some of the best, most clever, most subversive, funny voices in comedy.

That includes:

  • Fred Armisen
  • Reggie Watts
  • Girl God
  • Natalie Palamides
  • Caleb Hearon
  • Moses Storm
  • Brandon Wardell
  • Ian Karmel
  • David Gborie

It’s such a stellar line-up and you can see all of that for only $20. Go get your tickets for Lance Bangs Presents @ The Elysian on 9/2 right here.

Pick of the Day: Girl God (in LA) 1/15

December 20, 2021
News
april clark, girl god, Grace Freud, los angeles comedy, sketch comedy

Most venues, bars, theaters are opting to go dark in LA and NYC for, seemingly, the rest of the year. Thus, we’ve got to look to next year for some sort of light of a future comedy show to catch at this stretch of that ever present, metaphorical tunnel.

So, earlier in the fall, Girl God (Grace Freud and April Clark) served up their special brand of “hot trans dykes who do dumb shit on stage” (that’s their very own description of their act) to NYC for a taping. Coming Sat. Jan. 15th at 10PM PT, LA will get the Girl God treatment at The Elysian with an exclusive performance that ought to be the sort of absurdist start to 2022 we all need.

Do not miss on the brilliantly daft antics of Freud and Clark and go get your tickets for $16 right here right now (and hope that shows aren’t cancelling or postponing a month from now).
