Screenwriter Bob Nelson is making the jump from indie hit Nebraska to the open TV pastures of Amazon.

Amazon Studios is continuing to rack up their talent pool that already includes Jill Soloway, Woody Allen, and now Nelson.

Not only is Nelson writing “Highston”, but the ever-industrious and mischievous Sacha Baron Cohen will be producing it, and the Little Miss Sunshine team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are set to direct.

Needless to say, we’re incredibly intrigued to see how all these folks mesh together on a coming-of-age comedy online.

Of all the Canadians that we should be getting on board with here Stateside, the absolutely hysterical Jon Dore is definitely in the top of that list.

That’s why were glad to see that he’ll be starring in a divorce comedy pilot at CBS “The Half of It” from Mike Gibbons, who also happens to be the executive producer at The Late Late Show with James Corden.

We know this is just a pilot and it still has yet to be shot, then considered for series, but in regards to seeing more of Dore, we say it’s about damn time.

With FX’s very successful partnership with Louis C.K., it only makes sense that they’re continuing to double down on projects with him.

Already, they’ve ordered “Baskets” to series that has Zach Galifianakis going to pursue his dreams of being a clown.

Now, they’re going to get to show his latest stand-up special and have him also direct a comedy pilot starring Pamela Adlon. The pilot “Better Things” sounds like it will pair quite well with Louie since it follows a single mother/actress dealing with three daughters and, maybe, sex and also has Adlon who plays one of the few actually recurring characters on Louie.

We will be looking forward to all of this.

Sarah Silverman Starring in Upcoming HBO Comedy Pilot

With dramedy Togetherness already set to premiere next month, HBO is delving more into the mid-life crisis territory of comedy in their latest pilot order. Sarah Silverman will star as a “pathologically honest woman having a mid-life crisis”. The description sounds like a radical departure from The Sarah Silverman Program, but we’re definitely into seeing Silverman get more vulnerable and honest.

There is no title yet, but as Happyish and Togetherness are already dramedies on the premium cable networks, we’d hope the title is something that goes in a slightly different direction just to stand out.

Cameron Crowe’s Showtime comedy pilot “Roadies” has just locked its cast. Luke Wilson, who had an excellent turn in Skeleton Twins this year,  Imogen Poots, Keisha Castle-Hughes, and Peter Cambor will all play a touring rock band’s road crew making for a sort-of workplace comedy set behind-the-scenes at a rock concert.

Roadies definitely seems like the perfect bridge for Crowe to get into TV and we can’t wait to hear the soundtrack he has in store for us.

First off, Nikki Glaser is doing a talk show pilot for Comedy Central. Take a moment to be glad that someone had the sense to make sure Nikki had a chance for another show after Nikki and Sara Live got the ax at MTV.

The pilot is entitled #NSFW w/Nikki Glaser and will have, appropriate of the title, Nikki discuss and explore the topic of sex, which, if you know her comedy, should be a lot of fun.

You can actually preview the pilot at Nerdmelt over the next two weeks before Nikki does an official taping for Comedy Central, which we highly recommend going to if you’re in LA for the first two weeks of December.

Tues. Dec. 2nd and Thurs. Dec. 11th both at 7PM are your two chances for previews. They’re free to attend with RSVP, so, again, please go if you can.

We don’t know about the rest of you, but are wishes have come true as Bill Burr is set to star in an upcoming FX comedy pilot, Pariah.

Coming from the minds behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, specifically, Dave and John Chernin along with Rob McElhenney set to direct, Pariah will center around Burr as a television personality that has a meltdown and then has to try to go through life as a normal person with experience only as a on-camera loudmouth.

So, we’re definitely hoping this goes to series as soon as possible.

AMC is dipping its toe into the waters of cable network comedy with their one and only comedy pilot, We Hate Paul Revere from Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner. Sandler and Wenner will play two brothers that are jealous of such heroes of the American Revolution as Paul Revere, who will be played by Ron Livingston.

Given how hard it is to hate Livingston’s face along with the premise, this could be a lot of fun at AMC, a place where period pieces normally turn very dramatic.

After getting rid of Nikki & Sara Live and Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, MTV is still trying to figure their angle for comedy. Their latest pilot is centered on Ken Jeong playing himself as a role model in a coming-of-age comedy.

It’s called, and perhaps you guessed it, Ken Jeong Made Me Do It. We’re curious to see if this will touch on Jeong once being a full fledged medical doctor.

That comedy pilot is a coming of age comedy from producer Steven Soderbergh and director David Gordon Green entitled Red Oaks set in 1985. Soderbergh and Green collaborating on a comedy series at Amazon has us thoroughly intrigued.

Amazon Studios Is Again Taking Submissions for Your Comedy Series Project

When Amazon Studios first sought to make a round of comedy series, they were open to submissions and now they’re in another development cycle, they’re looking for more genre comedies, dramadies, dark comedy, and other such projects along those lines.

At the very least, if you make it to being a pilot, people will get a chance to see it.

Cameron Crowe’s Developing a Comedy for Showtime

Cameron Crowe is indeed making his way to comedic television as he is developing a series entitled Roadies for Showtime. There’s no cast attached as of yet, but we’re sure that Crowe will get some great folks together for a comedy series about a rock tour.

Whether this ends up being a sort of Almost Famous: The Series, we’re on board.

Comedy Central Sets Up Cop Comedy Pilot From Happy Endings’ Caspe/Libman/Tarses

Procedural comedies seem to be the hot commodity at the moment, perhaps, thanks to Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s success just in its first season. There’s Tribeca from Steve Carell at TBS, Sober Companion with Nick Frost at Fox, and now a cop comedy pilot from the creator, writers, and producers of Happy Endings David Capse, Matthew and Daniel Libman, and Jamie Tarses.

For the overflow of hour long procedural dramas and their numerous spin offs, we’re liking this trend.

David Koechner To Create & Star In Variety Sketch Comedy Pilot For NBC

We’re thrilled that NBC has tapped David Koechner for a variety sketch show pilot and we think it’ll inject some much needed vigor and excitement into NBC’s development slate.

However, we’d be curious how this would pair with SNL if this got picked up.

The Lorne Michaels and Paul Feig HBO comedy in pilot set in New Jersey will now have Sarah Silverman as well as Topher Grace in the cast.

While the premise of the show isn’t much more defined that a modern take on life these days, specifically in NJ, Paul Feig should make for something really interesting.
