This week is particularly big week for comedy releases. One of the reasons for that is the great Ron Funches album The Funches of Us is set to come out on Fri. Nov. 13th from Comedy Dynamics.

We actually got to see one of the nights on the weekend he was recording the album at Comedy Works in Denver and we can confidently say that you’re all in for solid comedy gold.

While we know a week is more than awhile to wait for this new Funches drop, you can preview Funches of Us here.

Jono Zalay’s “Snake Oil” Out Now on Comedy Dynamics

Jono Zalay is one of those odd cases in comedy where an individual went really far in one field that has nothing to do with telling jokes and went on to be a comedian any way because, as it turns out, that was their true calling.

Zalay got a PhD in neuroscience, but doing stand-up was not only something he chased passionately, but another field he came to excel in. As you might imagine, Jono takes a very logical, measured approach to his jokes on his album Snake Oil whether it depends on wordplay, timing, diction, syntax, or the angle in which he approaches his observations.

While you can see scientific influence in his comedy, it’s definitely, above all, funny.

Get Snake Oil, fresh off of the Comedy Dynamics label here.

Beth Stelling’s “Simply the Beth” Out Now

We’d hope got a delightful taste of Beth Stelling this past weekend when her half hour special premiered on Comedy Central. If so, you’d know how much of a sweetheart she is while also being cleverly subversive throughout her comedy and then subsequently fall in love with her like we have over and over again.

If not, you’ll probably fall in love with her any way, hence the album title.

Get Simply the Beth off of iTunes here.

Mike O’Brien may have stepped away from SNL full time, but he’s still making sketches a plenty as he is putting an entire sketch comedy album.

Entitled Tasty Radio, O’Brien gets to get as weird as he wants along with the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Fred Armisen, Vanessa Bayer, Neil Casey, Bill Hader, Nasim Pedrad, Cecily Strong, Jason Sudeikis, Jorma Taccone, and way more.

It comes out from Comedy Dynamics on Oct. 30th, but you can preview this “Fun Girls” track right here right now.

Nore Davis’ “Away Game” Follow-Up to Home Game Out Now

Comedy Dynamics has had a great string of releases recently including albums from Kevin McDonald and Seaton Smith. Nore Davis’ recently released, sophomore album Away Game is also a part of that Comedy Dynamics streak.

Away Game serves as a very solid, appropriately titled follow-up to his debut album Home Game. Nore’s charm on stage is infectious, making his perspective on his own life in his material a pleasure to listen to. Going from ‘Home’ to ‘Away’, you get another great snapshot of Nore’s recent life, coupled with anxieties that naturally come around when you’re a little older, from the same very funny Nore.

So, get and give a listen to Away Game on Amazon or iTunes.

Kevin McDonald’s First Ever Album Featuring Stand-Up “Making Faces” Out Now

The approach to stand-up from a sketch background is always interesting one. More often than not, sketch comedy folks try to find the tropes in stand-up and then point out how taken for granted in their supposed, inherent humor they often are.

The Kids in the Hall’s Kevin McDonald makes this dynamic very clear right from the get go on his live comedy album Making Faces, which also features sketches in case you were wondering. McDonald messes with the dichotomy between stand-up and sketch making for a surprising fun album.

Get Making Faces here to see what we’re talking about.

Seaton Smith’s First Full-Length Album “Bologna Meat” Out Now

Comedy Dynamics’ latest album release, Bologna Meat, comes from Seaton Smith who puts his crackling and bursting energy on display throughout.

Equally impressive, he flows through his material, stops on a dime, disarmingly chuckles, and then gets back to bringing some urgency into the mic no matter whether he’s talking about sex or politics.

Pick up a copy and listen to it here.

“Bill Hicks Box Set: The Complete Collection” Set to Come Out on 9/11

Whether it’s be released or not, Comedy Dynamics is giving us all the definitive Bill Hicks collection.

12 CDs, 6 DVDs, and a photo booklet span every album and special that has seen the light of day as well as hours of unreleased performances by the legendary comedian.

While we can only imagine how Hicks would tackle talking about 9/11 on stage, you can be sure that he would be as fierce and unrelenting as he always was about fueling truth through his comedy and Fri. Sept. 11th, 2015 is probably as good a release date (even if it’s just a coincidence in this case) for a Hicks collection.

Posthumous Comedy Album “Uncabaret Presents Taylor Negron” Out Now From Comedy Dynamics

The unfortunate passing of Taylor Negron at the beginning of this year made us all revisit the long, storied, diverse career of Negron including when he performed comedy and told stories.

One of LA’s famous, longest running shows Uncabaret was one of Negron’s favorite and most frequent places where he would perform. There, he spun fresh tales that might seem “tall” if it was anyone else other than Negron telling them.

Uncabaret and Comedy Dynamics some of his best sets onto one album, Uncabaret Presents Taylor Negron.

Shane Mauss blends philosophy, breaking both of his feet at the same time, and stand-up comedy together pretty seamlessly in his latest album My Big Break. On paper, it might seem like a concept album, but is very much a fully formed, very enjoyable hour of stand-up.

Well, we’re glad to see quick renewals are becoming a trend.

Coming To The Stage only premiered over a day ago and Comedy Dynamics has already liked the numbers enough to pick up the stand-up showcase series for two more seasons that will be coming soon, possibly this year.

The announcement was made at last night’s premiere party at UCB Sunset by Comedy Dynamics’ Brian Volk-Weiss and Coming To The Stage host Dan Levy.

So, this means more folks like Sara Schaefer, Dave Anthony, Ian Abramson, Rell Battle, Matt McCarthy, and Jen D’Angelo will get their stand-up featured in the not so distant future.

If you want a Southern perspective processed through the lens of comedy in this millennium, look to Dave Stone and his brand new album Hogwash off Comedy Dynamics’ label.

Dave comes from Atlanta and has lived in a van, but offers up concise, very funny portraits in his life that prove that there are folks from the South that aren’t like the long standing stereotypical caricature of Southerners.

Pick up his album Hogwash and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

So, 12 comics intros at live shows could potentially be, “You’ve seen our next comic on “Coming To The Stage”, coming to the stage…”

Dave Anthony, Matt McCarthy, Sara Schaefer, Ian Abramson, Rob O’Reilly, Jen D’Angelo, Rell Battle, James Davis, Jesse Popp, Benji Aflalo, Joe Sib, and Allen Strickland Williams make up 12 comics that will be hosted by Dan Levy in the new stand-up web series Coming To The Stage.

It’s a line-up you should definitely watch as featured in this trailer.

Comedy Dynamics caught some footage at the “hallowed” rooms of the Hollywood Hotel and Tribal Cafe showing that they searched everywhere they could for the best comics they could find.

Coming To The Stage is set for release online May 6th.

Album of Unreleased Bill Hicks Material To Be Released Later This Year

(via Rolling Stone)

Maybe there will be a bit about his last set being cut from Letterman? We’re not sure, but we’re guessing Bill talked about that on stage at some point before he passed away.

Of all the things that Comedy Dynamics is doing with the Bill Hicks catalog including a theatrical release of one his specials, a brand new album of unreleased tracks from Hicks has to be one that peaks the interests of all, whether they be Hicks fans or skeptics.

The album is set for release on Oct. 27th and there are no details as to what exactly will be on it, but we’d guess it’s going to be a compilation of a number of Hicks’ sets like the few compilation albums that have been released over the last several years.

Whatever it ends up being, we all have all Spring and Summer long to ponder and guess what it might be.

Sara Schaefer’s Debut Comedy Album “Chrysalis” Out Next Week From Comedy Dynamics

March 11, 2015
Uncategorized

Sara Schaefer is a perfect example of why “female comedians” should just be labeled as “comedians” and don’t need to be brought up on stage with “Are you guys ready for a lady?” because she’s outright funny, no qualifiers needed.

Her debut comedy album Chrysalis should back that statement up thoroughly.

Sara’s comedic lens is a wonderfully empowering one, especially for those who are tired of the world’s seemingly arbitrary standards with everything. For instance, you’ll be able to hear about It how crying at a museum can be one of the best things you can do at a museum.

Chrysalis comes out next week from Comedy Dynamics on Mar. 17th, but you can pre-order it now.

Bill Hicks Special “Relentless” To Get Theatrical Release

To kick-off the big re-release of the entire Bill Hicks catalog, Comedy Dynamics is set for a theatrical run of Bill Hicks’ Relentless.

On Apr. 27th, Relentless will play in hundreds of theaters across the country, which will be nice to see as opposed to mere clips of the comedy special in various documentaries that have been made about Hicks over the last 20 years.

Seeing this special in theaters is probably now the closest you’d get to what it would be like watching him do stand-up at a club.

Now, we’ll have chance to enjoy Hicks’ genius in full. Keep your fingers crossed that the specials will appear on Hulu for free via Comedy Dynamics.

Richard Jeni, who passed tragically and too early like Robin Williams did this week, will, at the very least, have his comedy live on in four albums from four of his specials on iTunes.

A Good Catholic Boy, Platypus Man, Richard Jeni’s Bits, and the posthumously released The Beach Crowd are now all available thanks to Comedy Dynamics. The Beach Crowd is cut from years of performances at The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA and really shows Jeni in his element.

Definitely make this part of your comedy library.

So, with that said, enjoy a comedy special free of Tinder jokes.
