When doing over a score of years in comedy, one faces the balance of maintaining the comedic voice that you’ve cultivated coming up in your career and then staying ahead or on the curve of what’s going on with comedy in the current moment.

Very few comedians have done that so well as Wayne Federman has. Through every decade that he has done comedy, Wayne manages to find a way to somehow keep shining through.

The Chronicles of Wayne Federman, which features performances all the way back from 1984 to 2015 at anywhere from Bing Theater at USC to Catch a Rising Star to the Throckmorton Theater to Nerdmelt to Largo to The Comic Strip and way more, will showcase how Federman pulled off such an impossible feat.

It comes out Oct. 16th from AST Records, but you can and should pre-order it here.

Nore Davis’ “Away Game” Follow-Up to Home Game Out Now

Comedy Dynamics has had a great string of releases recently including albums from Kevin McDonald and Seaton Smith. Nore Davis’ recently released, sophomore album Away Game is also a part of that Comedy Dynamics streak.

Away Game serves as a very solid, appropriately titled follow-up to his debut album Home Game. Nore’s charm on stage is infectious, making his perspective on his own life in his material a pleasure to listen to. Going from ‘Home’ to ‘Away’, you get another great snapshot of Nore’s recent life, coupled with anxieties that naturally come around when you’re a little older, from the same very funny Nore.

So, get and give a listen to Away Game on Amazon or iTunes.

Kevin McDonald’s First Ever Album Featuring Stand-Up “Making Faces” Out Now

September 27, 2015
Uncategorized

The approach to stand-up from a sketch background is always interesting one. More often than not, sketch comedy folks try to find the tropes in stand-up and then point out how taken for granted in their supposed, inherent humor they often are.

The Kids in the Hall’s Kevin McDonald makes this dynamic very clear right from the get go on his live comedy album Making Faces, which also features sketches in case you were wondering. McDonald messes with the dichotomy between stand-up and sketch making for a surprising fun album.

Get Making Faces here to see what we’re talking about.

Seaton Smith’s First Full-Length Album “Bologna Meat” Out Now

Comedy Dynamics’ latest album release, Bologna Meat, comes from Seaton Smith who puts his crackling and bursting energy on display throughout.

Equally impressive, he flows through his material, stops on a dime, disarmingly chuckles, and then gets back to bringing some urgency into the mic no matter whether he’s talking about sex or politics.

Pick up a copy and listen to it here.

You might have recently seen Sheng Wang as one of the top 10 comics on the latest season of Last Comic Standing, but we would hope that you’ve come to know him from his various late night performances over the years and followed his stand-up very closely afterwards like we have.

If you have done so, you’d know that Sheng Wang exudes pure fun in his jokes as if you’re hearing the most clever DJ on the radio that doesn’t need to play music because his jokes are so good.

Wang’s debut album Cornucopias Are Actually Horrible Containers is a great example of what we’re talking about.

You can and should get it off of All Things Comedy here.

It has been quite some time since the last collection of sweetly composed, hilariously biting songs from Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome better known as Garfunkel and Oates.

However, the wait is over and their latest album, Secretions, is out now. 29/31, a song from both perspectives of a woman who is 29, then later 31, and The BJ Song, a song exploring the inner monologue of a woman while giving a ‘beej’, are two of our favorites.

Get Secretions (the album, not bodily fluid) here.

This is actually going to be a pretty great Labor Day Weekend for Michelle Buteau as her half hour special premieres on Comedy Central on Saturday night at midnight, which will follow the release of her album Shut Up! that’s out today.

On Shut Up!, Buteau showcases a nice sheen of attitude in order to connect with the audience on a more vulnerable level, which she does deftly, when delving into personal material about topics like being in an interracial, cross-contintental marriage. It’s almost like a great hang out with Michelle that gets into more truthful territory throughout.

Get Shut Up! here.

“ It’s the audio from my last of 3 shows that I performed at Madison Square Garden early this year.  Some of the material is in the Comedy Store Special.  Some of it isn’t.  But it’s also a fun show on it’s own.  BUT since it’s repeated material, I’m giving you the option to set your price anywhere from 1 dollar to 85.”

-e-mail from Louis C.K. for Live at Madison Square Garden

You can get your copy of the album for anywhere from $1 to $85 here and you might want to do that as we’re not sure when the next time Louis is going to do a special or when he’ll do the next season of Louie.

The unfortunate passing of Taylor Negron at the beginning of this year made us all revisit the long, storied, diverse career of Negron including when he performed comedy and told stories.

One of LA’s famous, longest running shows Uncabaret was one of Negron’s favorite and most frequent places where he would perform. There, he spun fresh tales that might seem “tall” if it was anyone else other than Negron telling them.

Uncabaret and Comedy Dynamics some of his best sets onto one album, Uncabaret Presents Taylor Negron.

Shane Mauss blends philosophy, breaking both of his feet at the same time, and stand-up comedy together pretty seamlessly in his latest album My Big Break. On paper, it might seem like a concept album, but is very much a fully formed, very enjoyable hour of stand-up.

Without giving too much away, Sean White has experienced just about as much death one can experience without dying on your own.

From that, he deftly explores the shades of black within the darker corners of comedy, especially when it comes to the more practical aspects of losing people that are close to you.

His album “Dead & Gone” is available now from AST Records. You can hear what we’re talking about in these two clips that open the album.

It’s not as easy to put comedy tastes into an algorithm as it as music. As that’s the case, Pandora will now be highlighting certain comedians, which we think is the better route for listening to comedy.

They also made great pick starting with Nate Craig.

Six weeks ahead of its release, you can stream Nate Craig’s brand spankin’ new album “Eggshell” exclusively on Pandora as part of their new Pandora Comedy Spotlight program. It’s like NPR’s wonderful First Listen, but done for comedy.

So, with all of this in mind, we urge you to listen to Eggshell here, then, if you can, go to Nate’s party celebrating the occasion in Venice tonight.
