Pick of the Day: Gilbert Gottfried Does Set List Live! 4/23

April 20, 2021
News
carmen morales, gilbert gottfried, improvised stand up, nowhere comedy club, set list

Before lockdown, when international comedy was able to be done in person, there was a phenomenon known as Set List that challenged comedians ’round the world to improvise stand-up based off of absurd, never-before-seen topics as if it was a part of their long-standing, best-selling act. It had played almost every single comedy festival in existence and had been a TV show in both the UK and Australia.

Of course, in person comedy has taken a “sabbatical” due to the pandemic, but the virtual space has provided for plenty of new avenues and innovation and transition in comedy. Set List, given it’s reach and the fact that both comedians and audience discover a never-before-seen topic together makes it kind of a dream for virtual comedy, which is why we’re thankful to see the iconic Gilbert Gottfried do a whole Set List show (with Carmen Morales opening) this Friday at 5:30PM PT/8:30PM ET via Nowhere Comedy Club.

Gottfried speaking on completely random topics, after all of what the world has been through, really ought to be one of the more thrilling comedy experiences throughout the entirety of this virtual era of live comedy.

Tickets start at $10 and you can (and very much should) get them here.

Though we can’t gather close together for the holidays (really, we shouldn’t be gathering with COVID-19 cases, infection rates, and hospitalizations spiking like they are), we can still get into the holiday tradition of touring around the neighborhood and looking at everyone’s holiday lights set-up. If you don’t feel safe doing that, you still don’t have to miss out as Carmencita the Christmas Mouse (Carmen Morales) went ahead and did a holiday lights tour for everyone.

Actually, she did one better and added some of her personal commentary/roasted some of the “one-of-a-kind” houses that she drove by.

Enjoy Carmencita the Christmas Mouse’s holiday lights tour/get into the true holiday spirit here.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 23: Carmen Morales & Important Distractions

To pull of a live-stream stand-up show is hard just as it. To do it consistently and charge and have a dedicated audience that’s willing to pay in an unprecedented time of economic fallout is truly amazing. That’s what Carmen Morales has done with her recurring live-stream Zoom stand-up show, Social D. Carmen zooms with TCB’s Jake Kroeger to see how she pulled it off and really disproves that comedy is dead right now (it’s just different). Also, “hot” takes on Jim Gaffigan’s rant against the RNC and Ayo Edebiri replacing Jenny Slate as voice of Missy on Big Mouth.

You can follow Carmen at carmenmorales.com and @thefunnycarmen across socials and listen to her podcast No Sir Pod.
