RIP Gene Wilder, 1933-2016

Gene Wilder had a hand in some of the most iconic comedic films of all time including Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. Today, he has passed away apparently due to complications stemming from Alzheimer’s disease.

Whether you’re familiar with his work or not, you should definitely rewatch or watch, discover, and be amazed for the first time by his long and storied filmography.

So much of it holds up even though this is 2016.

Mel Brooks is not only on board for this movie, but he also is part of the voice cast.

August 2017 is the target date for Blazing Samurai, a movie sounds as unbelievable as Blazing Saddles, its source of inspiration, did when it was first being conceived.

Lion King director Rob Minkoff has brought on the likes of Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, George Takei, Gabriel Iglesias, and more as well as the aforementioned Brooks for a movie that seemingly takes the plot of Blazing Saddles, makes all the characters anthropomorphic animals, and sets it in feudal Japan. Like we said, it sounds pretty out there, but so was the meta, absurd comedy of Brooks all those decades ago.

Brooks being heavily involved is definitely more reassuring that this might be a highlight of 2017 summer fare.

Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles is, without question, one of the funniest movies of all time. That’s why the release of a special 40th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray should also go without question.

Just released yesterday by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, not only will you get the classic film, but plenty of bonus content including the Black Bart TV pilot inspired by the movie, commentary by the legendary Mel Brooks, 10 collectable quotable cards, and more.

We’d say this is something that you would do better to have your own copy of rather than watch via Netflix, etc. So, pick up your copy here.
