Funny or Die’s Adam McKay & Owen Burke Have a New Podcast

November 30, 2012
Uncategorized

Earwolf keeps building their podcast empire with this latest addition, “Owen & TJ Read the News” with Adam McKay and Owen Burke. It’s up to you to think if this is a sign that there are too many podcasts and more coming everyday or that this medium is well on its way to something much bigger.

Dan Harmon Has Powerpoint Fun at XOXO Festival

November 30, 2012
Uncategorized

Dan Harmon was asked to be the keynote speaker at the XOXO Festival, a festival focused on “disruptive creativity”, and he started off by admitting that he looked up the definition of the word ‘keynote’ as well as putting together a powerpoint presentation of the likes that only Dan Harmon could only think of and execute perfectly.

Watch this, be amazed and have a laugh, and then, think to yourself who would have thought that the cashier in this sandwich franchise training video would the guy in the video embedded above later in life?

So, Hecklers Tend to Have Cocaine on Them?

So, Hecklers Tend to Have Cocaine on Them?

Two weeks ago, Jake Weisman found cocaine on a very bad heckler while performing in New Orleans (the video was unfortunately taken down). Just recently, another comic, Adam Newman, put on the coat of a heckler only to find coke.

We’re not sure if it’s a trend or not, but it would almost seem like hecklers are bad people that are carless with their hardcore drugs. Perhaps, those are two things you would be better off in life not doing.

Based off the trailer, along with Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Aubrey Plaza co-starring and Roman Coppola writing and directing who has worked on several Wes Anderson movies, we kind of do want to see “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” starring Charlie Sheen.

It’s Closer to Happening-Equity Based Crowdfunding (i.e. People Can Invest in Your Sketch Group)

It’s Closer to Happening-Equity Based Crowdfunding (i.e. People Can Invest in Your Sketch Group)

As recently reported by The Hollywood Reporter, crowdfunding, more commonly known by such popular sites as Kickstarter or Indiegogo, is about to mark a new milestone by being able to offer equity in a project instead of stickers, hugs, t-shirts, voicemail greeting by a comedian, etc.

The website Early Shares is evidence of this as they have already entered agreements with media entities to fund projects via ‘equity crowdfunding’. So, all those wishing to making a comedy album, special, podcast, sketch group, movie, novel, production company, series of novelty t-shirts, look to attempt to get investors for such projects possibly next year.

A Note on a Lot of Things Ending in LA Comedy

December 2, 2012
Uncategorized

Comedy Bang Bang has ended their live weekly run at UCB Theatre in LA.

The Bang Theater on Fairfax has closed.

The Hollywood Improv Lab has closed.

The stage at Red Rock on the Sunset Strip is closing.

The Little Modern Theater is closing later this month.

Times like these where there are empty spaces in such a crowded place like LA comedy are fascinating. Plenty of things are coming to an end just as, undoubtedly, shows and venues will start up. This by no means is signifying the end of an era as the comedy scene in Los Angeles is as vibrant as ever with a virtual comedy festival every night.

We don’t have any details or ideas as to what will specifically happen, but comedians want to perform and now have the opportunity to start something without having to promote against something more established. These are the times when people in comedy, who years from now will be having specials whether they’ll be on TV, the Internet, or theaters, are starting something or expanding something they’ve already started into bigger and greater things.

Already, Holy Fuck celebrated three years of running, Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail has celebrated two years since going weekly, and they all have much bigger things in store according to our sources.

In short, as we have always maintained here at The Comedy Bureau, go out and see comedy live because you’ll see something hilarious and probably, in the long run, historic.

This Is Close to Our Hearts: James Adomian Plays Huell Howser for Funny or Die

December 3, 2012
Uncategorized

If you’re a Southern California native, you’re hopefully familiar with the wonderfully bizarre world of Huell Howser, former host of California’s Gold (he just retired), person most excited about literally anything just because it exists. We’ve seen Howser interview people that sleep in the backyard of their house and sound like he just won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

Whether you knew it or not, the hysterical James Adomian does an impression of him (imagine Howser watching Inception) and Funny or Die and director Payman Benz thankfully made some videos of him doing so.

Enjoy.

This Better Be Funny Ep. 51 with Matt Ingebretson

This week’s This Better Be Funny is with Matt Ingebretson and though it goes blue right off the bat, no one gives us the stink eye while eating dinner.

At the Brite Spot in Echo Park, Jake and Jeremy precede, along with very funny Matt Ingebretson as their guest this week, to have a conversation that would have probably more likely than the one had by two hitmen in Pulp Fiction. Specifically, public urination, public sex acts,…

Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy from MST3K along with Maria Bamford and host of Wits on APM radio, John Moe, bring to life a sketch, written by the very funny writing talents of Alison Agosti and Lauren McGuire, wherein there is a more realistic retelling of Dorothy, played by singer and songwriter Brandi Carlile, going back to Kansas at the end of The Wizard of Oz.

We doubt it, but, perhaps, there will be some of this type of humor in the upcoming ‘Great and Powerful Oz’. So, just enjoy it here for now.
