Tom Shillue To Release 12 Albums in 12 Months

October 29, 2012
Uncategorized

While there have been many awesome changes in comedy and how it is done and distributed thanks to the Internet, there’s still more to be done. For instance, amazing storytelling driven comedian Tom Shillue, who you might have seen tour with Jim Gaffigan this year, or, hopefully, know through him his stories that have won him awards around the country, is going to release 12 albums over 12 months starting this November.

The first one is called Better, Stronger, Faster and will be available Nov. 6th. We can’t wait for these albums out because Shillue is really funny, but also we can’t wait to see what every other comedian will do or if podcasts and comedy albums cross paths.

Here’s a Documentary on Why You Might See Something Great at a Live Comedy Show

October 29, 2012
Uncategorized

It’s always our feeling that everyone should go see comedy live. Whatever you see on TV or on your laptop is incomparable to what you’d see, hear, feel, laugh at in a live show. For example, Snob Theater was a variety show run by Shawn Robbins featuring the best in comedy and music with a really classy feel in San Francisco for two years. This is a recently posted documentary showing exactly that (Drennon Davis, Chris Thayer, Foxtails Brigade, and more) backing up that first sentence.

Yes, we know that you’re watching this online, but trust us, it would have been more magical and hilarious live.

Dwight’s ‘Office’ Spin-Off Isn’t Happening

According to Rainn Wilson, ‘The Farm’ the Dwight spin-off from The Office isn’t happening. This news comes on the heels of the NBC sitcom ‘Up All Night’ switching from single camera to multi-camera and adding a live audience.

While Community’s new season still hangs in the balance, there seems to be a big wholesale change tone wise just past the horizon towards us coming at NBC comedy.

If this keeps going, maybe Patrice will get a commemorative hologram performing at JFL in a decade or so.

Watch a Late Night Talk Show Without an Audience

October 30, 2012
Uncategorized

Though Hurricane Sandy has forced most shows to shut down production, Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman opted to tape their Monday episodes anyway sans audience. It’s bizarre to see the cutaways of no audience and the cast and crew only laughing, but we didn’t feel at a loss or confused while watching the show at all for the lack of applause or room laughs at all. It felt all the more intimate. Give them a watch and see if you like hearing the laughs you normally hear from a warmed-up and prompted audience or not.

Community Will Be Back on NBC in February

October 30, 2012

After all the hullabaloo this morning of NBC’s Community getting on the air in Canada before it had a set date in the U.S., cast member Yvette Nicole Brown tweeted out that Feb. 7th will be the day Community comes back to NBC at 8PM.

It may have had nothing to do with it, but did a potentially fake post on the Internet force NBC’s hand? Also, will Feb. 7th really be Feb. 7th?

Ellen DeGeneres’ Mark Twain Prize Acceptance Airs Tonight

Tonight at 8PM, PBS will air the pre-recorded special of Ellen DeGeneres receiving one of comedy’s highest honors in America, The Mark Twain Prize awarded by the Kennedy Center.

We don’t know if she is going to try to top Will Ferrell’s bit of dropping the bust, but there has to be plenty of dancing, right?

Remember the viral hit that pretty much everyone hated then loved because the girl is a teenager, Friday by Rebecca Black? Well, here’s a web series, Rebecca Black and Her Manager, that gives you an inside look what her life might be like from NY based Kelly Hudson and Langan Kinsley and probably based on real life interviews with Black like this one.

Anyway, this is a good example of how tragedy + time = comedy.

One of our favorite movies this year, Safety Not Guaranteed, was released on DVD and Blu-Ray yesterday. If you didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters, it’ll be worth the cost of whatever you’d be spending buying it on DVD or getting it on Netflix, etc. Time travel, Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, a romantic comedy, and more. make for something really unforgettable and very funny.

If you’re up for it, you can buy it here and now.

The first part of the interview is embedded above, then watch part 2, part 3, part 4 and part 5 (even Obama didn’t get 4 clips online for his latest late night appearance).
