As Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal are moving to Los Angeles, they’re transplanting their wonderful weekly show, one of the best in NYC, Hot Tub here, somewhere in LA. Ideally, they’re looking for a musical venue that doesn’t already have a comedy show. We don’t have details yet as to where that would be, but wherever in LA county it ends up being, all of us should go and see it every week.
TJ Miller’s talk show, The Gorburger Show on The Warner Sound with Funny or Die, where he plays a blue haired monster has The Mars Volta and Chelsea Wolfe as guests, which is all well and good and funny. Yet, as a blue monster that took over a studio for a show, does he eat anybody on this episode? Watch, laugh (because this show is so hilariously ridiculous), and find out.
Submit Your Comedy Into the LA Film Fest
Submissions are now open for the LA Film Festival and they’re taking short films, music videos, and feature narrative and documentary films, all of which can have comedy in them. Hopefully, some of the comedy videos we post here, especially LA based, will end up be screened at this year’s LAFF.
Deadline is Dec. 7th (early), Jan. 11, 2013 (official).

It’s often disappointing that much of stand up comedy shies away from high brow and divisive topics like religion and gender issues because it splits the audience or just goes completely over their heads. That’s why we love Hari Kondabolu and this latest set on Conan where he made a jokes about the main Abrahamic faiths and feminism work quite well to the point of a few applause breaks.
It gives us faith in people and what they’ll laugh at.

That’s a good enough sign for us that the world can hold off from ending until Summer 2013 or just never.
There was a time and place (the 80s) when David Letterman was on later in the evening/early morning and he was a lot more like Conan O’Brien willing to let things play out. Specifically, comedic actor and voice over talent James Urbaniak interrupted Letterman whilst Letterman was stumbling over a joke to fix it and, lo and behold, Letterman did. Watch the story animated and told here as part of Vulture and UCB’s web series collaboration in Pop Culture Memory Lane.
The latest episode of the fantastic behind the curtain, off the stage, off mic comedy web series, Modern Comedian, by Scott Moran, follows the one and only Todd Glass throwing a party at his house, which is more engaging (and uplifting) than pretty much any other reality tv show based around the lives of interesting people. In the nearly 20 min. episode, Glass takes us through party prep, the actual party, and several comedic bits run through with Rory Scovel and other guests.
Just like comedy clubs should follow Todd’s advice for how to set up a showroom, people should follow Todd Glass’ advice on how to a throw party, mandatory blue blazers included.
