Zach Gaflianakis is your new GQ dude (shot gloriously and beardiously as ever by Martin Schoeller), and we’ve got an excerpt of his Mad Lib-style cover story. Includes the sentence, “We made [‘The Hangover Part II’] because I still felt unresolved about MY CHARACTER’S FATNESS and Mike Tyson’s PIGEON LOVE.”
The Complete History of SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy
Did you know that Celebrity Jeopardy appeared on SNL a whopping 14 times? Originally created by Norm Macdonald as a vehicle for his Burt Reynold’s impression, it soon morphed into a showcase for Sean Connery endlessly antagonizing Alex Trebek.
Megh Wright gathered up all 14 versions of the classic sketch, with info and insight on each one. A delightful way to spend your lunch break!

Due to additional responsibilities that we’ve overtaken at the Comedy Bureau, we are experimenting with dissolving the Morning Debriefing in separate posts throughout a given day.
There will still be frequent updates and posts everyday informing any and all about latest and best in comedy in the Greater Los Angeles Area and (sometimes) beyond. They’ll just be separate posts separate from two static calendars listing all the best upcoming shows and open mics.
Also, there will be more time to write more original articles like the Tip of the Hat and show recaps as well as get into interviews and other brand new things via The Comedy Bureau including covering the upcoming Bridgetown Comedy Festival.
Thanks for to all for your support and readership and we’re only going to get better from here.

HEY FILMMAKERS!
Here at The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, we get a lot of people asking us if they can show their videos on our show, and for one reason or another, it’s just not a good fit for our weekly show. So we’ve decided to create a night just for all the short films we like that aren’t right for our show- it’s the First Annual Meltdown Movie Night!
From now until May 6th, you can submit any short film (animated or live action) to us, we’ll pick our favorites, and show them on May 21st at Nerdist Theater at Meltdown.
Here are the specifics:
- Your film must be on DVD or readily available on YouTube
- It must be your film (duh)
- You can submit it via mail (Emily Gordon at Meltdown Comics, 7522 W Sunset Blvd, LA CA 90046), email (meltdownshow@gmail.com) or by handing a DVD to us at The Meltdown
- Any DVD must have your name and email address written on it in Sharpie
- Your film must be under 10 minutes
So start submitting, and maybe we’ll see you… at the Meltdown Movie Night!

Later this week: Peter Atencio, Eric Toms, Stage 11!
This is a screenshot of the Train Wreck Episode of Gentlemen Scumbags. That’s my good friend, Al Jackson (who is fucking hilarious and was over-serverd last night) doing a pop-in on the show. Jonny Loquasto was the guest. Enjoy. It’s here.
And for the sensitive NLO listeners who also listen to Scumbags, I’m not mad at Patrick or Al. Jesus, calm down. I love you. I love them. Calm it.

Didn’t See The Show This Week? Here’s What You Missed
From last night’s series premiere of Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, here’s Norm defending Tiger Woods using math.

Episode 2 – Roommating – “Girlfriend”
In this episode, Joel’s girlfriend is depressed. And he wants to keep it that way! But not if I have anything to do with it. (With the very talented Jillian Szafranski).
This episode features my favorite phrase “blow jobs and doggy style” – a term I use to describe myself when I was going through my “awkward slut” phase, which is to say, I would be ok if sex with a man involved only blow jobs and doggy style, even if I didn’t get to do anything I liked in return (cuddles, jokes about unicorns, an orgasm). Why? Because I was just happy a man was paying attention to me.
Don’t worry, I have self esteem now. And when I give someone a blow job now, it’s because I want to, not because I think they won’t like me if I don’t.
And you best believe we’re telling unicorn jokes naked.
Norm MacDonald’s Triumphant Return to the Fake News Anchor Desk
Did you catch the premiere of Norm MacDonald’s Sports Show last night on Comedy Central? If not (or even if yes), Colin Perkins has you covered. But maybe don’t miss it next week?
But for fans of MacDonald, his new show — which premiered last night on Comedy Central — should provide a welcomed dose of comfort. Sports Show (a title of which is hilariously simplistic in and of itself) is mostly made of its host firing off one-liners in front of a series of rotating images on a TV backdrop. It’s a format that feels very familiar, combining the best of Weekend Update with the feel of his stand-up. And in focusing on the world of sports, MacDonald has chosen a subject that offers up a never-ending supply of targets.
