I don’t know if anyone reads the Comedy Bureau in Santa Barbara, but if you do, Velvet Jones does plenty of amazing shows like a night with Doug Stanhope and this, Set List, which you should absolutely go to.

Largo | Paul F. Tompkins Show | 06.18.11

To get in the spirit of the live recording of the Pod F. Tompkast, Paul dressed himself and the stage in a nautical theme, complete with what looked to be a diving helmet on top of the piano, while Eban dressed in a knit cap, a’la Jack Cousteau.

thecomedystore:

Monday July 25, 2011 marks a special day for the Comedy Store . Writing the names of comics on the walls of The Store has always been tradition and this year we will be adding some well known names as well as some soon to be known names to our walls

Among the 20+ names being added will be Sarah Silverman, Tony Clifton, Moshe Kasher, Nick Kroll, Chelsea Peretti, Judah Friedlander, Melissa Villasenor, and long-time Comedy Store manager, Dean Gelber.

Names Night solidifies the place of honorees at The Comedy Store and is physical proof of the great efforts they have put into their careers and the art of Stand up Comedy.  Among the performing arts, only Stand up is comprised mostly of soloists, making it a unique journey of personal discovery for audiences and performers alike and it is our honor to share in this journey with such talented people.

To mark the occasion, The Comedy Store will have comics performing in the Original Room and a private reception for the honorees in the Main Room with floating photographers, food, and comic interviews.  We hope to be having some BIG guests swing by for the evening, and a few special surprises.

The reception for honorees in the Main Room that night is private, but the general public is welcome to attend the show in the Original Room for free*

Come on out for a landmark evening at The Comedy Store and join us in celebrating some incredible talent !

SPRING STREET PARK READIES FOR LATE AUGUST 2011

If downtown LA keeps up at the rate it’s going, I’m actually going to want to live there in a year or two. Now if we can just get Hollywood on board for their Hollywood Central Park – a plan which would cap the 101 freeway and put a park over it in between Hollywood and Santa Monica Blvd. It would take a long time but the plan is so fucking cool. Also in the works – a plan to turn the LA River back into a (gasp) River.

I love how LA is trying to create more public spaces. Griffith park is great, but there’s few green public spaces interspersed throughout the city. I love LA, but it’s a city you have to learn to love. If some of these plans actually materialize, LA can truly become an amazing city with a high quality of life.

I’m sorry everyone. I read this and thought, “So there will be more places where we can do a comedy show, right?”
