Watch Trailer for What Might Be New Zealand’s Latest Comedy Gem “The Breaker Upperers”

New Zealand’s Madeleine Sami and Jackie Van Beek mischievously turn the romantic comedy genre upside down with their film The Breaker Upperers, which focuses on an actual “breaking-up agency”.

In other words, if you’re too scared to initiate break-up with a significant other, there are “guns for hire” in this movie that will facilitate a break-up on your behalf. The concept itself has loads of potential for devilish fun and the trailer definitely delivers on that.

Just so you know, The Breaker Upperers has Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok and America’s current favorite New Zealand export, attached and just played by SXSW. We can only hope that means that it will find its way into theaters across North America soon.

Today is a good day for the genre of New Zealand Horror Comedy. Not only is Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s What We Do In The Shadows going to see more U.S. screens, but another film in the same niche, Gerard Johnstone’s Housebound is going to get an American remake via New Line.

Housebound follows a firebrand teenage girl being forced back into a family home that is possessed, but, being a rebel, she isn’t putting up with any fuss from demons/spirits.

No writer, cast, or director is set yet, but something that sounds like Attack The Block meets Amityville Horror hailing from NZ is a movie that we’re definitely up for.

Though Eddie Izzard won’t have to learn a new language to tour in Australia and New Zealand, it’s still amazing that he’s taking his latest stage show Force Majeure to as many countries as he possibly can.

From Jan. 28th-Feb 20th, he’ll be touring extensively through both countries and you shouldn’t miss a chance to catch the brilliant Izzard.

Also, don’t confuse this with the new French movie of the same name getting rave reviews set during an avalanche.

Trailer for New Zealand Vampire Comedy “What We Do In The Shadows” Is a Lot of Fun

Despite what you may think, the movie sub genre surrounded by vampires isn’t quite finished yet. If anything, it’s only the romantic Twilight-esque notions of vampires that folks are growing tired of. Twists and redefinitions of the sub genre seem to be popping up and are pleasantly surprising.

Case in point: the New Zealand comedy What We Do In Shadows from Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, which follows vampires living in a flat, mockumentary style. Just check the trailer and see how much fun it might just be.
