For a very big stretch of our tenure as The Comedy Bureau, we’ve always dreamt (and thusly attempt to manifest) comedians giving a tour of an art museum or an art exhibition. There have been hints of such things over the years (B.J. Novak snuck his own version of an audio tour into an art museum way before The Office), but we feel that there is such a great intersection of the art and comedy worlds that could create something really magical with a bit more traffic (i.e. comedy could take itself a little more seriously and art could be sillier and more self-effacing)

Leave it to art critic and comedian Christina Catherine Martinez to do something brilliant yet again and set herself to do a tour of an actual art exhibition at MOCA as a character. Hence, this weekend, there will be Christina Catherine Martinez presents: Stephanie presents: Tala Madini. Christina will be donning an alter-ego of mononym art publicist Stephanie diving into the very real and profound work of Tala Madani in its closing week at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in DTLA.

There’s no Super Bowl, awards shows, or whatever else this weekend, so make plans to go to this on Sat. Feb. 18th at 4PM, especially since admission is free.

MOCA, The Museum Of Contemporary Art here in LA, has started an initiative to meld the worlds of art and comedy by reaching out to comedians for collaborations. This initiative is very succinctly called Art + Comedy.

So, they worked with the amazing Rory Scovel and Rory came up with his video art piece “Everywhere at Once” which we think hits the intersection of high art and comedy that MOCA is looking for.

LA’s MOCA Trying to Make ‘Art + Comedy’ Work in New Initiative

The Museum Of Contemporary Art here in Los Angeles is making an effort, specifically called Art + Comedy, to, as you can guess, bring the burgeoning worlds of comedy and high art together.

They are already well on their way in collaborations with Jack Black and Fred Armisen, but we’re curious to see what else MOCA is going to cook up and if they’d start something like a monthly comedy show at one of their spaces.

This makes us wonder how this will juxtapose against the other “art/comedy” exhibitions in LA, like the frequent pop culture tributes at Gallery 1988.

Jack Black, Fred Armisen to Star in MOCAtv Web Comedy Series

Apparently, Fred Armisen will be playing a superhero named Ambiance Man and Jack Black will be his complimentary villain Unidentifiable Odor. All of this is for a web series through the upcoming YouTube Channel of MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art) in LA.

So, we’ll have to wait until next Friday to see what this is exactly, but we’re pretty into it without a teaser or set photos.
