TCB Debriefing 1/5/24: White Lotus S3, Minx, Taylor Tomlinson, In the Know, Katherine Blanford

January 5, 2024
News
in the know, katherine blanford, minx, peacock, taylor tomlinson, white lotus

1. The cast of the acclaimed dramedy White Lotus season 3 has just been announced and it will star Leslie Bibb, Tayme Thapthimthong, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, and Jason Isaacs. Anyone have a death pool or running yet odds on what sort of sex escapades will happen this time around?

2. Minx just got canceled (again) and it opting to not go for another season (Variety). Pour one out for a wild, yet nuanced look at gender and sexuality with fantastic 70s fashion and hope it ends up on some streaming service that you already have.

3. In addition to taking the reins to the late late slot at CBS, Taylor Tomlinson is premiering her latest special, Have It All, on Feb. 13th on Netflix. 2024 might be a year ruled by two Taylors.

4. Peacock is really cementing itself in the high concept niche when it comes to original comedies. Following up Poker Face and Mrs. Davis will be the animation/live action hybrid that seems to be lovingly skewer NPR called In The Know. Take your first gander at the show here, then look for it on Peacock on Jan. 25th.

5. Call us crazy, but we think Katherine Blanford is probably going to have a pretty damn good 2024. Go see for yourself on her Prison Barbie Goes on Tour with dates going through the Summer. Get tickets here.

6. We’ll leave you with this: May you all be successful enough in comedy that you talking mad shit on a podcast is the leading news of the day.

TCB Debriefing 7/20/23: Krapopolis, Ben Roy, They Cloned Tyrone, Minx, Praise Petey

July 20, 2023
News
ai, ben roy, hulu, krapopolis, minx, netflix, praise petey, they cloned tyrone

1. It seems like Dan Harmon’s latest work, Krapoplis, has been teased for years at this point, especially since it has scored a third season without even having premiered, but the arrival of a group of petty gods trying to guide civilization is nigh. Please enjoy the first official trailer here, then just wait a bit more for Sun. Sept 24th for its actual premier on Fox, then streaming on Hulu the next day.

2. Ben Roy‘s fantastic new hour, Hyena, is available to rent here as a special (which includes a digital copy of the album version) right now from 800 Pound Gorilla, and then will be able to stream on YouTube, free for your convenience beginning Thurs. Aug. 10th. Per usual, Roy’s prismatically expressive looks into his own life and the lives around him are, yet again, a reliably refreshing jolt from one of comedy’s most arresting performers. More detailed review to come soon.

3. FYI, if you’re out of luck of seeing Barbie and/or Oppenheimer this weekend, you’ll be glad to know that you can catch the slick sci-fi thriller comedy They Cloned Tyrone on Netflix and season 2 of Minx on Starz beginning this Friday.

4. The series premiere of Freeform‘s latest comedy (to hopefully make up for cancelling their critical darling Single Drunk Female) Praise Petey is also this Fri., Jul. 21st (next day on Hulu). Take a gander at the comedy following the most unlikely, reluctant of cult leaders from the brilliant Anna Drezen here,

5. Anyone think that movies and TV will soon be marketed as “AI Free” or “a Completely Original Story”?

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 54: Lizzy Cooperman & Envisioning Reality

April 7, 2021
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
gutfeld, hbo max, lizzy cooperman, minx, sag awards

Lizzy Cooperman remains a monumental comedian in our formative years of comedy even before The Comedy Bureau ever came into existence. The wide expanse of her creativity, her beautiful spirit, and her reverence for comedy is something we have always been inspired by and those things are still alive and well while in quarantine and leaving LA for a spell. TCB’s Jake Kroeger delves into what Lizzy has been pouring her energy into in this time as a comedian who is severely immunocompromised and what she is pondering of doing in what is still, unfortunately, a still very unsure future. Also, we actually do speed through the news/”hot” takes this time on Paul Feig’s Minx, SAG Awards winners, and Gutfeld!

Follow Lizzy @lizzycooperman on IG and Twitter and get her remarkable album Organism wherever you get your comedy albums.
