The ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Trailer Shows We’re in the Thick of a Horror Comedy Wave

Ever since Shaun of the Dead, there has always been a playful dipping of the toe of comedy into horror (or vice versa depending on how intentionally bad the horror is). The mixing of the two genres aren’t new, but there is a noticeable uptick in the volume over the last few years. What We Do In the Shadows, The Baby, Astrid & Lily Save the World, and many more are part of the latest tide rolling in of comedy and horror. Why exactly is horror comedy is coming up is a mystery, but, possibly, we feel, it could be just the sort of the anxiety and rage fueled comedy that’s reflective of our time.

One of the latest additions to the horror comedy/comedy horror mix will be the Sundance hit Bodies Bodies Bodies from Halina Reijn starring Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, with Lee Pace and Pete Davidson. The humor woven in here, from the trailer, feels darkly, yet joyfully sharp and there seems to be a pretty playful use of Pete Davidson and the public’s perceived image of him.

There is a Search Party vibe here that we’re really on board for and Aug. 5th, Bodies Bodies Bodies release date, will hopefully come a bit quicker so we can revel in the millenial/Gen Z funny mayhem. Take a gander at all of this with the official trailer here.
