One of Our Favorite Venues in LA, The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe, Needs Help Via Indiegogo

We spend a good deal of time at The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe as some of the best, most innovative shows in town often happen there (Dr. Brown, Natalie Palamides, Modern Vaudeville, Feel Good Podcast, Underbelly, etc.) as well as a healthy round of open mics that have really fostered a community within theater itself.

Recently, they’re in urgent need of repairs to the theater and are crowdfunding in order to cover the cost of said repairs.

Please consider helping them so they can continue putting on their amazing shows and continue to grow.

Dangerfest will be a new a comedy festival that will be gracing the stages of Highland Park here in Los Angeles from Thursday, October 6th-Sunday, October, 9th.

As they state on their site:

DangerFest! will focus on an all female and LGBTQ talent roster, without having that be the focus of the marketing of the festival. We aim to let the work speak for itself and have nothing feel “separate” about it.

They’re looking to crowdfund $7000 to put on this festival, which you can contribute to right here.

Here’s a video explaining their mission further featuring comedians Atsuko Okatsuka, Julia Prescott, Heather Hanford, Lisa Chanoux, and Jenny Yang.

Support Making of Dark Comedy “Cuddle Party” Starring Rob Huebel and Michaela Watkins

Dark comedy, “cuddle party”, Rob Huebel, Michaela Watkins, and executive producer Jill Soloway, should, we think, be enough incentives to not only you get on board to see Matthew Irving Epstein’s film Cuddle Party, but also see it get made.

A couple whose relationship is on the rocks opt to try out a “cuddle party” and, well, it’s a dark comedy, so something insane and hilarious will happen.

Cuddle Party is seeking $35,000 in funds for production over the next 24 days. They’re at $8,020 as of this post being written.

You can hear more about it as well as what a ‘cuddle party’ is from Epstein here and you can help via donation here.

Also, to answer your question, yes, one of the rewards for donating is getting to be part of an actual cuddle party.

Please Support Making of Patrice O’Neal Documentary

Of the documentaries that focus on the life of a single comedian that could be made, one of Patrice O’Neal definitely needs to be made.

As the art form of comedy moves forward, truly unique, trailblazing voices become rarer and rarer. Patrice O’Neal was one such comedic voice that we unfortunately lost too early.

Now, such a documentary, Better Than You, is being made by his fiance Von Decarlo and veteran producer/director Mark Farrell. They’re looking to crowdfund it so they can do it exactly how they want to do it and honor Patrice properly.

So far, they’ve raised $54,889 on Indiegogo out of their $125,000 goal with one month to go.

Anyone think that the TV network executives of America would put any money behind a series that follows a former star of a sci-fi show in the great and bizarre world of fan conventions even with actual sci-fi stars Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk attached?

Well, the people of the Internet certainly is putting money down on that idea for Con Man.

All Tudyk and Fillion were looking for was $425K, which isn’t a modest amount when it comes to crowdfunding, but it’s probably a modest budget for they wanted to do. Little did they know that only a few days into their campaign that they would more than quadruple their goal with the money raised.

As of this post, their Indiegogo campaign is at $1,827,086 and they have almost entire month to go before the campaign closes on Apr. 10th.

Now, we all have to wonder how much more they’ll get to do with the extra dough.

Also, in case you’re wondering, you should donate to this because this series sounds like it could be pretty great.

Oft referred to as the Egyptian Jon Stewart, Bassem Youssef hosted a hit satirical news show in Egypt called Al Bernameg. However, as free speech seems to be more limited over there than it is here, Youssef ran into problems when poking fun at those in power.

A documentary is being made about his trials and tribulations in trying to pull off what he pulled off called Tickling Giants. They’re looking to crowdfund $150,000 on Indiegogo by Mar. 10th. As of this post, they have raised $47,827.

If you donate $20, you’ll get a digital download of the movie, but, in general, any amount donated to this project is definitely going to a good cause for both comedy and free speech.

Even though Kurt Braunohler completed the absurd Herculean task of jet skiing from Chicago to New Orleans, there’s still around $17,000 to raise for his $50,000 goal on indiegogo to support Heifer International in sending 500 goats and 1000 chickens to African families in need.

Kurt is willing to put up his limited edition “Keep It Dry” towels for those who donate. So, you have until the midnight tonight before the campaign ends.

Also, getting a towel that says “keep it dry” could double as a symbol of solidarity in conserving water during this California draught.

Doug Stanhope’s Has Raised $86,000 for Atheist Oklahoma Tornado Victim with Great Indiegogo Page

After the wake of a tornado in Oklahoma and the devastation it brought about, one woman, Rebecca Vitsmun, while being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer admitted she was an atheist, though she doesn’t fault any survivors that thanked God.

Hearing this, Doug Stanhope started an indiegogo page for Vitsmun and her family that you might want to donate to (even though it has surpassed its goal of $50,000 and is currently above $86,000 raised) for both a good cause and how damn funny it is.

One of the rewards is a “Get Out of Hell Free Card”.
