A&E Wants to Make a Dramedy Inspired by “Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead” But National Lampoon Isn’t on Board Yet

(via Deadline)

Maybe go the “unauthorized biography” route?

In this current comedy boom, there’s a particular fascination with the story behind comedy (just listen to most comedy podcasts and remember that Showtime’s doing a show about The Comedy Store in the 1970s). The documentary National Lampoon documentary Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of National Lampoon shows the glory days of the National Lampoon brand, when it used to be one of the biggest things in comedy.

It should go without saying that some network would want to adapt the documentary into a televised series.

A&E wants to be that network to make a show like that, but they’re opting to develop a series that’s only inspired by the documentary, offering up a fictionalized account of what happened at National Lampoon without referencing National Lampoon (a retro Studio 60?).

However, no one at A&E has contacted National Lampoon and this has National Lampoon rallying against the project until they’re involved.

Hopefully, they’ll settle their differences and not have to be “inspired by” as the National Lampoon origin story is plenty enticing on its own.

The broadcast is live on A&E and it might be worth switching back and forth between the democratic presidential candidate debate.

These two promos give a good indication that TJ Miller is going to have a lot of fun as the host of The Critics Choice Awards.

Do keep in mind that they will be broadcast live on Sun. Jan. 17th at 5PM PST on A&E, which we have no doubt that TJ will take advantage of.

Max Silvestri Co-Hosting a Food Road Comedy Show on FYI Network

The very funny Max Silvestri will be regularly on TV on the to-be-launched FYI Network as third co-host of an untitled “food comedy road show” with food critic Gail Simmons and chef Marcus Samuelsson.

There isn’t much more details beyond that, but we’re glad that Silvestri will be going around showing us food or, we hope as it’s “food comedy road show”, start massive food fights.

The Best of the Original An Evening at The Improv Now on DVD

A&E used to not have a bunch of reality shows and actually had stand up featured on their channel in a oft-referenced show known as An Evening at the Improv. Featuring the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Crystal, Fred Willard, Jim Carrey, Bill Maher, Michael Keaton (it’s the Michael Keaton you’re thinking of and he was pretty funny as a stand up), and more, you can now relive the last golden age of stand up before this current one.

A+E Networks Getting Back Into Comedy with Pilot Starring David Koechner

It’s been a long time since Evening at The Improv, but A+E has stepped back into the comedy arena by ordering a pilot starring David Koechner.

Good move A+E.
