Support Live Comedy Today with Thrilling Adventure Hour & The Little Modern

October 10, 2012
Uncategorized

There are two crowdfunding campaigns regarding comedy that we’re completely behind. The Thrilling Adventure Hour, a monthly live “old timey radio” show at Largo at the Coronet Theatre that’s always sold out featuring the likes of Paul F. Tompkins, James Urbaniak, and more as well as recently inducted Nerdist podcast. They’re looking to expand into a graphic novel, concert film, and more with donations.

Also, there’s The Little Modern Theater, a independently run space for live comedy in LA that puts on shows free of charge to performers and audience members allowing for comedy to hopefully flourish as it should. With donations, they hope to keep their operation going.

Watch Laura Kightlinger and Mary Lynn Rajskub Be ‘Drunk and Disorderly’ as Cops

October 10, 2012
Uncategorized

This is a pilot episode for a series called ‘Drunk and Disorderly’ starring Laura Kightlinger and Mary Lynn Rajskub as two live and let’s keep being some of the non-productive cops at Oakland PD. It’s darkly hilarious along with a fresh angle of the buddy cop comedy, created and written by Laura Kightlinger and David Punch, and a cameo by Patton Oswalt, so naturally, we’re excited to see more very soon.

Set List: The Improvised Stand Up Show Demystified, Though Still Mystifying

October 11, 2012
Uncategorized

One of our favorite exports in LA comedy undoubtedly has been Set List: The Improvised Stand Up Show, though some people we talk to still don’t quite grasp the concept. Luckily, there’s this really great interview with creator Troy Conrad and producer Paul Provenza while on their way to the Galway Comedy Festival in Ireland that explains it all and gives some great clips of stand-up being made up on the spot by Rich Hall, Jimmy Carr, and more.

You’ll get what it’s about and how it’s done, but you’ll still be flabbergasted how anyone pulls off improvised stand-up

7 Psychopaths & Smashed Coming Out This Weekend

October 11, 2012

They’re two atypical comedies to be sure, but ones that we’re glad are coming tomorrow. 7 Psychopaths, written and directed by the one and only dark comedy master Martin McDonagh, opens nationwide and Smashed, co-written by very funny comedian Susan Burke and James Ponsoldt/directed by Ponsoldt, opens at The Landmark Theater in West LA and the newly opened Sundance Cinemas on Sunset Blvd. starting this Friday.

Click either poster for the trailers to see what you need to be going to the theater for.

Parker Posey Makes For a Perfectly Crazy Boss in ‘Price Check’

October 12, 2012
Uncategorized

Taking the lead in this dark workplace comedy, Parkey Posey is back in full force, a la her undeniable off the rails charisma as a bad girl  in Superman Returns, though this time as a grocery chain executive in Price Check.

Distributed by IFC Films, this’ll surely be another nice notch on the comedy brand belt of IFC. (via Laughspin)

The Apple Sisters Have Some Helpful (Maybe?) PSAs on Venereal Diseases

October 12, 2012
Uncategorized

Anachronistic musical comedy trio The Apple Sisters have put together some public service announcements for all the young kids out there having intimate relations. Whether they’re helpful is, we guess, in the eye of the beholder, but they’re pretty damn funny. Watch Cora Apple’s message on VDs above, then Candy’s and Seedy’s right after.

THEN, buy their delightful musical comedy album 1943.

Comedian Adam Cayton Holland Is a Troubled Bird
