The Ballad of Buster Scruggs Trailer Brings the Coen Brothers Back to the Old West (and Their Signature Dry and Dark Sense of Humor)

While their remake of True Grit was an entry into traditional Western genre, still done up with Coen Brothers’ panache, Joel and Ethan Coen haven’t done had a Western film to their name that’s completely their own.

Well, that is until now with the “six-part Western anthology film” called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. There’s a lot of buzz as it works its way along the festival circuit and this trailer just released today really shows more of the subversive, gallows humor (in this case, literally) set in the cinematic landscapes that the Coen Brothers are so good at laying out. Tim Blake Nelson, the titular character, appears to shine bright in all ways from what you can see.

What’ll be interesting in the two-pronged release of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs on Netflix and in limited release on November 16th. All Coen Brothers movies should be seen on the big screen, but not having to wait until the movie possibly expands to a theater near you and just streaming on Netflix is awfully convenient.

Also, it seems like James Franco in a noose, confused, might become it’s own meme separate from the film, doesn’t it?
