Watch Trailer for “The Year Between”, a Different Sort of Coming-of-Age Dramedy

While there is a good amount of discussion about and truthful, enlightening depictions of mental health these days, especially in comedy, it still feels like it’s not enough, especially how mired in chaos the world is these days.

Thankfully, the conversation about one’s mental health is getting more and more normalized and certainly having great comedic explorations of it, on stage and screen, is a big part of that. The upcoming feature The Year Between definitely seems as though it’ll be one such a film that follows a college dropout being diagnosed with a new mental illness during, we’d assume, the titular “year between”.

The trailer promises a refreshingly alternative, but unflinchingly honest, and very funny coming-of-age story (much different from the kind that track fish-out-of-water dealing with graduating their senior year). More impressively, writer/director Alex Heller takes on the starring role in her first theatrical feature, which already seems to have the makings of an indie hit (and a great spark to expanding the dialogue about mental health).
