A Very Special Episode of The Green Room with Paul Provenza, Live from Paul’s Very Own Backyard

Even though it was over a decade ago since it first premiered and ran for two seasons, The Green Room with Paul Provenza still resonates with any and all comedy fans/nerds/obsessives that come across it. The premise was simply to be a fly on the wall for all those “green room” conversations that happened backstage at a comedy club or theater where some one-of-a-kind comedy gold was spun. During its run, Paul moderated conversations between amazing panels that include Bo Burnham, Marc Maron, Kathy Griffin, Eddie Izzard, Kumail Nanjiani, and more.

All that said, it has been awhile since those magical two seasons aired and folks have had a chance to visit The Green Room with Paul Provenza. Well, that while has come to a close with Paul starting to do shows in his very home, dubbed The Green House, (he “blames” us here at TBC for his backyard becoming a venue, FYI) and sometimes, that includes special, live, outdoor versions of The Green Room, produced by the original pairing of Provenza and Babs Romen (and, full disclosure, we have a hand in running the 1s and 2s too), . If you haven’t had a chance to see one of these special Green Rooms, they are magical.

To show you why The Green Room is so special, here is the latest happening of it that gathers many comedians who are sexual assault/abuse survivors, namely Andy Andrist, Annie Lederman, and Kristine Levine along with Doug Stanhope and Henry Phillips for a truly unbelievable conversation about processing some of the darkest trauma into comedy for both inner peace and hope and solidarity for others.

*TRIGGER WARNING for those sensitive to the topic and discussion of sexual assault/abuse/rape as this conversation dives explicitly into survivor experiences and humor.*

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 167: Babs Romen & The Green Room as The Green House

In the time since Babs’ last appearance on TCB Field Report, she has helped erect a venue in the backyard of the one and only Paul Provenza dubbed “The Green House” (via Paul’s brilliant Showtime series The Green Room with Paul Provenza). Unlike the majority of shows that happen at a person’s home or “house venues”, there’s such a plethora of wondrous comedy gatherings that happen at the sane space of The Green House and Babs details all of it as well as the journey it took to get to transforming a patch of gravel by a hot tub into a joyous place for comedy and comedy adjacent things.

Follow Babs @babsromen on Twitter and @babsromen1316 on IG. Tickets for the live-stream of the latest Green with Paul Provenza (featuring special guest Doug Stanhope and others) on 6/17 are available at Nowhere Comedy here.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 79: Paul Provenza & Comedy of Future Past

One of comedy’s most respected minds, Paul Provenza, joins in for this week’s TCB Field Report to go down the rabbit hole of the art form of comedy. Paul and TCB’s Jake Kroeger explore so many different angles, different generations, and different perspectives that they ended zipping through the running time of a Marvel movie. Truly, a fascinating conversation that weaves through the new SNL hires and Just For Laughs partnering with Moontower and explores the philosophy of comedy and what many people are missing out that’s coming up because they aren’t looking to the past at Brother Theodore or Charlie Barnett. Also, Paul discusses his groundbreaking work with Andy Andrist, both in documentary (that he’s still working on) and comedy special form with Andy’s Last Shot, The Green Room with Paul Provenza on Showtime, and Set List: Improvised Stand Up.
