HBO Orders Pilot for “Avenue 5”, an Armando Iannucci Space Comedy

As Veep (created by Armando Iannucci) is on its way out on its own terms, HBO wisely wants to stay in the Iannucci business and has already put their money down for a pilot of his latest project, Avenue 5, a futuristic comedy set, most likely, on a space ship.

Now, that is pretty much the only detail that currently exists for the project, but it should be noted how much of a departure it is for the mastermind behind modern political comedy such as Veep, In The Loop, The Thick of It, and the upcoming Death of Stalin.

So, we’re imagining that an Armando Iannucci space comedy will have to deal with the ridiculousness of “exo-politics”, perhaps making fun of the Treaty of Greada or the heirarchy between the Greys, Reptilians, Nords, humans, etc.
