Summer is officially in session, which means that the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is just around the corner. While it’s always enticing to take up an opportunity to watch as many of hundreds upon hundreds of shows, most of us don’t have the money to fly to Scotland, find a place to crash for a month, and THEN pay to see shows. At least performers have a shot to make some money maybe (though, more realistically, hoping to break even).

That’s why The Elysian Theater’s annual tradition of putting a whole day of their favorite LA comedy folks that are bound for the Edinburgh Fringe and presenting their shows back-to-back-to-back-to-back.

This particular Edinburgh Fringe Preview Day at The Elysian will run through 8 shows from 12:20PM to 11PM on Sat. Jul. 22nd. We’ve actually seen most of these shows already and tell you that it would be worth your night to catch any of them.

Sophie Santos… Is Codependent
Joy’s Bed & Breakfast w/ Jessy Morner-Ritt and Izzy Gerasole
Two Cats on a Date by Griffin Kelly

Pick of the Day: A Discussion & Analysis of Chasing Amy w/ Paul Scheer & Sophie Santos! (in LA) 8/5

July 27, 2022
News
chasing amy, how did this get made, kevin smith, lesbian agenda, paul scheer, sophie santos

Both How Did This Get Made? with Paul Scheer and The Lesbian Agenda with Sophie Santos have built their respective reputations with both questioning the established order of things. So, they’re joining forces for a very special evening with their dive in, dissect, reenact, and discuss with the crowd in attendance the 90s Kevin Smith staple, Chasing Amy, in order to see if a movie about a lesbian falling in love with Ben Affleck holds up in 2022.

Here’s the trailer in case you forgot how 90s it is.

It should be nothing but great fun and definitely the evening for those who are currently steeped in 90s nostalgia. This Discussion & Analysis of Chasing Amy with Paul Scheer and Sophie Santos is set for Fri. Aug. 5th at Dynasty Typewriter at 7:30PM PT. Tickets are $20 and you best go get them now here as we do have a feeling that this will sell out.

It should be pretty clear by now that, for several big chunks of the country, abortion under any circumstances will become illegal. That’s why it’s crucial right now to raise money for those most vulnerable as a result of The Supreme Court’s turn to the Dark Side with their overturning of Roe vs. Wade last week.

We’re going to use this particular post to shout out upcoming LA & NYC comedy shows that are supporting abortion funds/abortion access/reproductive rights/etc. The ones we’ve got listed thus far have great folks on them and have chosen critical funds/orgs to back. Buy tickets, go support, and/or donate directly to the places they’re giving money to.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 117: Sophie Santos & Lesbian (+ Filipino & Others) Agenda

June 22, 2022
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
intersectionality, lesbian agenda, sophie santos

The issue of identity in comedy is more prevalent than perhaps it has ever been in comedy. That’s actually a great thing even though the seeming explosion of varying perspectives and backgrounds that all have their different takes and stories may feel overwhelming to some. Both Sophie Santos, wonderful comedian/creator of The Lesbian Agenda, and TCB’s Jake Kroeger delves into their own intersectionality and what that means for their comedy and comedy at large wherever they go.

Yep, we also get into Chappelle’s latest deal, Cosby being found guilty, and where to watch season 3 of Wellington Paranormal.

Follow Sophie @sophieesantos on IG and sophiesantos.com. Get tickets for The Lesbian Agenda @ Dynasty Typewriter on 6/28 here. As mentioned in the ep., please donate to Trans Lifeline.

Pick of the Day: The Lesbian Agenda with Sophie Santos (in NYC & LA) 6/13 & 6/28

ashley gavin, bell house, brooklyn, cameron esposito, comedy show, jess henderson, julia shiplett, liza treyger, matt rogers, maya deshmukh, nyc comedy, paul scheer, pride, sabrina wu, sdynee washington, sirbaby girl, sophie santos

Before even acknowledging that its Pride Month, any time of the year is a great time of year to catch Sophie Santos‘ quest for queer dominance via her creation, The Lesbian Agenda. That said, it’s Pride and it’s an especially good time to go support great queer artists of every background, especially when it comes to live comedy.

The Lesbian Agenda has already taken over both coasts by firmly planting roots in NYC and LA, which is a pretty great start to cultural domination in the U.S.

In fact, there are upcoming dates for both cities with The Lesbian Agenda taking over The Bell House in Brooklyn on Mon. Jun. 13th and Dynasty Typewriter in LA on Tues. Jun. 28th, both at 7:30PM local time. Both have incredibly stacked, festival-worthy line-ups including:

NYC:
Ashley Gavin
Sirbaby Girl
Matt Rogers
Sabrina Wu
Julia Shiplett
Jess Henderson
Maya Deshmukh as Cara Delevingne
Che Diaz
