Podcasting Is Now a Little Safer From The Patent Troll Known as Personal Audio
(via Ars Technica)
Phew.
A couple of years ago, Personal Audio sent letters to many prominent podcasters including Marc Maron, Jesse Thorn and Adam Carolla threatening to sue on the grounds of patent infringement.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation took on Personal Audio to make sure that podcasting would be protected from this patent troll and that podcasters wouldn’t be unfairly shook down for their money.
Today, it was announced that the EFF was successful in this battle and that people currently podcasting are not infringing on Personal Audio’s patents. In a way, it’s the podcast equivalent of preserving Net Neutrality.
So, to celebrate, there’s probably nothing better to do than to keep listening to podcasts like you were already.
