Pick of the Day: Parlimentary Lights (in LA) 2/27

There are few surefire comedy formulas like comedians debating a point on stage. It’s such a fun phenomena, one has to wonder why it doesn’t happen much, much more often (there is Culture Court at The Comedy Store, but there needs to be more).

Thankfully, comedian/poet/raconteur Derrick C. Brown is bringing around such a comedy debate show in Parliamentary Lights this coming Monday. Brown will host the likes of such comedy luminaries as Beth Stelling, Kurt Braunohler, Annie Paradis, Jenson Titus, and more in what should be a fierce contest of, very likely, using comedy to overcome any sort of sound logic.

You’ll just have to go get a ticket for only $10 and see for yourself on Mon. Feb. 27th at 7:30PM to the Lyric Hyperion. Go get tix here right now.

The Eastside of Los Angeles is already a treasure trove of indie comedy shows. A lot of that has to do with the neighborhoods of Highland Park to Los Feliz being considered some of the city’s cooler neighborhoods and the fact that so many comedians actually reside in that part of LA county.

Thus, Highland Park and anyone around those parts are getting one more comedy/variety show you shouldn’t miss. Rainbow Fish @ The Goldfish will not only give you LA’s best comedians, but give you some wondrous drag, and music to boot thanks to the delightful Eastside denizen and a somewhat newer, but still amazing addition to the LA comedy scene, Carly Kane.

This inaugural edition will feature:

Music From Grace Kinter & Lando Chill
Comedy From Nori Reed, Jenson Titus & Carly Kane
Drag From Joella Perry

If you don’t want welcoming a new show into LA, mark down Wed. Aug. 31st, 7:30PM and go get your tickets for $11.33 right here right now.

Please Enjoy “A Gay Scene Written by a Straight Man”

In the ongoing quest for representation mattering on a widespread basis, Hollywood is incrementally doing its best to tell the stories of all marginalized groups. Unfortunately, that does mean that they will fall short of the mark sometimes, despite some good intentions.

Nicholas Scheppard, Jenson Titus, and George Aivaliotis show just one way that this happens with how straight man, who thinks they are very well acquainted with LGBTQIA+ culture would write a “gay scene” in what is likely a very heartfelt drama.

Please enjoy it here (and maybe think about all the times that has happened in actual high profile TV and movies).
