Watch Trailer for Laurie Kilmartin’s Excellent Special “45 Jokes About My Dead Dad”

It’s not often that you see concept specials/albums in comedy. Generally, those go in to the territory of solo shows (or they’re marketed as such), but doing jokes for an entire show on one single topic is a rare bird as it’s very hard to pull such a feat off well.

The passing of Laurie Kilmartin’s father lead to a joke writing frenzy on Twitter that caught the attention of the Internet. From there, she took the jokes on stage and put together an entire special that is very clear in its intentions, 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad.

The jokes are as well-crafted and funny as they are dark and honest, as you’ll see in the trailer. Also, there are thoughtful interviews in the special with Laurie, her family, Patton Oswalt, Andy Kindler, and Conan O’Brien that give some insight as to how the whole special came about. Overall, Kilmartin really showcases how powerful comedy can be in dealing with loss and does so hysterically.

Watch the trailer for 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad here, then stream it on Seeso this week on Thursday, December 29th.
