Katie Nolan, for years now, has been a great intersection of sports, comedy, and feminism. Whether it was Garbage Time, Sports?, or the ESPN+ digital series Always Late with Katie Nolan, Nolan has repeatedly demonstrated how to make sports journalism silly and accessible to even those barely interested in sports.

So, it’s very exciting to hear, as was announced on her podcast Sports?, that her late night style show Always Late with Katie Nolan is being upgraded from digital series to linear TV on ESPN 2.

Come Thurs. Sept. 26th, Nolan will be an exciting addition to world of late night as she makes it a little less of a boys club (the premiere of A Little Late with Lilly Singh this month will also help too) and she’s coming from the sports world.

Personally, we’re excited to see what Nolan will do and, possibly, what very niche world record she might break next (Katie set the Guinness world record for blindfolded donut stacking on her show).

The intersection of sports and comedy has been tricky thing to figure out and few, in our opinion, have done that consistently well.

One of those people is Katie Nolan. We really dug her previous show Garbage Time over at FS1 and definitely are thrilled to hear her show on ESPN+, Always Late with Katie Nolan is now up and running and back to doing things like trying to break a very obscure Guinness World Record in the niche category of stacking things.

Also, if you do dig this, you should subscribe to her podcast Sports?, which, for our money, have the most fun ad reads in the biz.

In general, just hop on board to whatever Katie Nolan’s doing.

Katie Nolan, Formerly of Garbage Time, to Now Join ESPN

If you’re not familiar or forgot, Katie Nolan was a rising star in the sports journalism world that happen to take a comedic, topical late night approach to the world of sports. Garbage Time with Katie Nolan aired on FS1 and started to gain a really loyal following for its original, funny, feminist take on professional sports and pop culture.

Now, there are no specifics (we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Nolan getting to bring her sense of humor in the form of her own show at the network) as to what Nolan will be doing, but you can count this is a good thing that ESPN has done recently.

Please Enjoy Peyton Manning’s 2017 ESPYS Opening Monologue

Peyton Manning continues to uphold his reputation as one of the most comedically reliable in all of professional sports.

He’s been a surprisingly good host on SNL and, just this past week, offered up a very solid opening monologue for this year’s ESPYS. There are some good burns as well as few slightly meta threads throughout that we’d guess that almost all pro athletes couldn’t get through in the tightly crafted 10 minutes.

See for yourself here.

Jon Stewart and Hannah Storm to Co-Anchor ESPN SportsCenter Coverage of DOD Warrior Games

Comedy and TV legend Jon Stewart has always been in the corner of those who put their life on the line as military servicemen, firefighters, police officers, etc., especially those who have done so and suffered wounds of any kind.

So, co-anchoring The Warrior Games with ESPN mainstay Hannah Storm tomorrow is kind of up his alley.

“The 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games, a multi-sport event for wounded, injured or ill service personnel and veterans, began June 30 and concludes July 8. Approximately 265 athletes representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), as well as the United Kingdom Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force are participating.”

Look for Stewart and Storm to cover the event live on a special edition of SportsCenter, Friday, July 7th 4PM PST on ESPN.

Professional athletes have their every move watched by the likes of several sports media outlets and rightly so with the millions of dollars invested in them.

In their latest sketch, Key & Peele imagine a world where teachers, arguably some of the most crucial stewards of generations to come, get the treatment that those pro athletes get, which they deserve.

So, watch TeachingCenter here.

Joel McHale To Host The Next ESPYs

(via Deadline)

We’re guessing that McHale will feel a little more comfortable doing roast jokes of professional athletes than having to do roast jokes about journalists and politicians, then follow President Obama in front of some of the world’s most powerful people.

The ESPYs are returning in July and they have gotten Joel McHale to come aboard for host the night’s festivities. You’ll get to see it broadcast live on ABC, which will undoubtedly will make for some memorable moments, both planned and unplanned.

The ESPYs have only had Samuel L. Jackson return as host, but we’ll all see if McHale pulls off a hosting job that will have him back on July 15th.
