Pick of the Day: Stand Up Comedy and the Law 9/23

September 14, 2020
News
cardozo school of law, comedy law, fame center

Comedy has always sort of ridden the edge (and often gone over it) of what’s legal and “allowed”. The inherent rebellious nature of comedy makes one of the most troublesome art forms out there. That being said, it is good and helpful to know where those lines, boundaries, precedents, and laws are at the current moment.

So, the Cardozo School of Law’s Intellectual Property Law Society and FAME Center are having a very special evening on Zoom called Stand Up Comedy and the Law that will examine “joke theft, contracts/negotiations with comedy clubs and television networks, non-disclosure agreements for audience members, and First Amendment rights,” with both comedians and lawyers. With the cultural reckoning that is going, comedy is being re-examined at every level right now and gathering all those conversations into one night is pretty enticing. It’s not often that comedy gets this sort of special panel discussion and it ought to be a very illuminating evening (and yes, there will be Q&A).

The panel will feature:

  • Veronica Mosey – Comedian
  • Diane Krausz – Law Offices of Diane Krausz
  • Sachin Bansal – General Counsel at SecurityScorecard, Comedian
  • Jeremy Schacter – IP Associate at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, Comedian

Stand Up Comedy and the Law will take place on Sept. 23rd at 3:30PM PT/6:30PM ET. Tickets are free with RSVP.
