Get Your First Look at BDSM Romantic Dramedy/Thriller “Sanctuary”

Zachary Wigon and Micah Bloomberg’s Sanctuary made a lot of noise during festival season, especially since it has been over 20 years since something like Maggie Gyllenhaal gem Secretary has been made. Also, the idea that there’s a bit of rom-com energy in a dark thriller, albeit a very twisted version of it, is something we haven’t really seen in long time either (maybe Mr. & Mrs. Smith?).

In any case, this two-hander with Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott looks so enthralling and full of scenes between Qualley as a dominatrix and Abbott as her submissive that you’ll likely laugh out of both shock and an acknowledgment of the absurdity that is life in the clear and present moment. Maybe it’ll play more like a much more f’d up version of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande?

Whatever is lying underneath the trailer here has us hooked and we can’t wait to sit obediently in our movie theater seat on May 25th when Sanctuary starts rolling out in theaters.

Take a look at all of this devious fun, if you dare, with Sanctuary’s first official trailer here.

Watch The Trailer for Jerrod Carmichael’s Suicide Comedy “On the Count of Three”

First, Jerrod Carmichael upends the world of comedy with his first hour special in years, Rothaniel. The reverberations from his beautiful, confessional special will be felt for awhile, but now he has another thing coming that might also make as many waves, his directorial debut (co-written by Ari Katcher and Ryan Welch), On the Count of Three.

It’s a suicide comedy starring Carmichael and Christopher Abbott that seems to be as dark as you can get with a comedy grounded in the real world. It also had a pretty great reception during its festival run this past year and it might be the sort of pitch perfect, cathartic comedy that a lot of folks are looking for right now.

Certainly, On The Count of Three, was already pretty high on our list of movies we’re really itching to see this year, but this first trailer for it bumped up even further. Thank goodness it coming out next week on May 13th in theaters and on VOD.

Take a gander for yourself at the official trailer for On The Count of Three here.

We’ve got to give it to George Clooney and co.

Thus far, from the teaser and this trailer, the adaptation of Joseph Heller’s legendary novel Catch-22 seems to be nailing the look, tone, feel, dark, dark, dry humor, and absurdity of the book (as well as featuring a perfectly cast Jon Rudnitsky).

See for yourself here, then look for the premiere of Catch-22 on Hulu on May 17th.
