Pick of the Day: RED BASTARD (in NYC) 3/31

March 28, 2024
News
brooklyn, brooklyn comedy collective, clown, eric davis, nyc comedy, red bastard

While there is certain a burgeoning of clown in the LA comedy scene for the last few years at this point, denizens of NYC comedy aren’t necessarily treated to the same sort of ready access to this facet of the comedic arts. For that reason, New Yorkers daring to see the boundaries of comedy and where they’re at these days outside of stand-up, sketch, and improv, might want to mark down this Sunday at 7PM on their calendar.

That’s the time and day when Red Bastard, acclaimed, award winning Edinburgh Fringe act is taking over the Brooklyn Comedy Collective to do his very special odyssey of a solo show (especially so for a select number of brave audience members). At the risk of revealing of what is up Red Bastard’s bulbous sleeves, we won’t say much more other than tickets are $16.88 and, if you get one, you’ll very likely have some sort of transformative experience on top of laughing your ass off.

Pick of the Day: NYCF Album Tapings for Liz Glazer and Luke Mones 11/10 & 11/11

The New York Comedy Festival is well underway right now and there is literally dozens and dozens of things worth dashing to and fro from between all five boroughs. Showcases, solo shows, podcasts, and more fill the entire schedule for NYC’s annual big comedy bash.

There are also hour long tapings that are done at the festival, capitalizing on the extra excitement in the air for the week, that are the sort of special thing that you don’t want to miss. Last year, David Cross taped his latest special and, this year, both Liz Glazer and Luke Mones will be taping their albums. Glazer and Mones have both worked their way to becoming favorites in the NYC comedy scene for their warmth and very keen and crisp writing.

Liz will be doing her taping at the Brooklyn Comedy Collective on Thurs. Nov. 10th at 7PM & 9PM and Luke will be doing his a nice jaunt from there at The Gutter in Brooklyn on Fri. Nov. 11th at 7:30PM & 9:30PM. You have two chances to catch both of them and we highly suggest that you don’t waste of any of them (especially since they don’t overlap).

Pick of the Day: Sagher & Gethard (in NYC) 11/5

October 24, 2022
News

Though they have ascended to the glitzy heights of critically acclaimed movies (Don’t Think Twice) and television (Inside Amy Schumer) and live tours and podcasts (Beautiful Anonymous) even their own specials (Career Suicide), Tami Sagher and Chris Gethard once were and will always be legendary when it comes to long form improv in NYC. Really, we shouldn’t even corral it to just NYC as Gethard and Sagher’s rise in comedy came through both of their prowess as improvisers, then blossoming infinitely into their successful comedy present.

So, NYC shouldn’t, no matter the circumstance, miss out on the two of them playing together at one of NYC’s all-inclusive comedy theaters, Brooklyn Comedy Collective, which ought to be a very intimated, unforgettable night of how damn good improv can be.

Mark down Sat. Nov. 5th and 8:30PM and go get tickets for $15 here right now.

Pick of the Day: Fun & Dumb Improv Festival (in NYC) 7/8-7/10

June 21, 2022
News

The danger of gathering in close proximity over the last couple of years has been devastating to live performance, especially when it comes to long form improvisational comedy. Improv is a major pillar to live comedy and flourished before lockdown, but has only just recently been finding its footing on this side of the pandemic having to deal with venue closures, performers moving away, etc.
Thankfully, the Brooklyn Comedy Collective is cooking up a celebratory return for improv in full force, which is great to hear since we have no idea if and when the next Del Close Marathon will be. From July 8th-10th, BCC will have over 80 shows from not only from NYC, but all around the globe to perform on their stages deep in Brooklyn. That’ll include such renowned teams as BABY WANTS CANDY, LADIES WHO RANCH, BORABISH, SHAMILTON, and way more! You can check out the entire schedule here.
“Fun and Dumb is all about bringing the improv community back together,” says BCC Artitistic Director Philip Markle. “We’re thrilled to have teams joining us all the way from Berlin & Chicago – as well as the other NYC comedy theaters like The Squirrel, Magnet, The PIT, Rubbish Comedy, and the former Upright Citizens Brigade.”
Day passes are going for $20 and you can (and very much should) go snag them here.

Pick of the Day: Girl God with Grace Freud & April Clark Encore Show (in NYC) 11/7

November 2, 2021
News
brooklyn, brooklyn comedy collective, Grace Freud, ny comedy

We were originally going to make Grace Freud and April Clark’s album taping for Girl God at Union Hall our pick of the day, but that sold out so quick that there was not really much to do in telling you about it.

Luckily, there’s an encore show that will have some lovely, absurdist bells and whistles in the form of ridiculous powerpoint presentations, bonkers games, and more (in addition to some wondrous, hysterical stand-up). Freud and Clark, AKA Girl God, have lined up this encore show for this Sun., Nov. 7th at 7PM ET at the Brooklyn Comedy Collective.

We have a feeling this is probably going to sell out too, so, find $10 and go get your tickets right this very second here. 21+, proof of vaccination required.
