Jerry Seinfeld Ready to Have More Coffee With More Comedians In His Fancy Cars

Going from a nice little experiment and hanging out with some of his compatriots, Jerry Seinfeld is a filling a season order with Sony.

Curious to see if Seinfeld stops into Intelligentsia or Lamill Coffee in an episode or races Jay Leno.

Yeah, What Steve Said About The Chicago Tribune Said About Heckling Being OK

Rather than give direct credence to the egregious article published for The Chicago Tribune (because that old adage of any publicity is good publicity holds up more than ever on the Internet), read refined and established comedy critic Steve Heisler’s response to why that’s not really OK, especially coming from someone who writes about comedy.

Be Part of the Global No Pants Subway Ride Here in LA

Yes, we have a subway that works regularly here in Los Angeles along with a gigantic, lively, and vibrant comedy scene, which means it has been part of Improv Everywhere’s Annual No Pants Subway Ride with participating cities around the globe.

It’s pretty awesome every year with people getting a pleasant surprise on mass transit by riding with pants-less people, so don’t make 2013 any different.

Dan Soder Is On Conan Tonight, Also Late Night TV Is Up and Running For 2013

After the annual lengthy hiatus of late night talk shows during the holidays, they are all finally back instead of being pre-empted by Christmas and New Year’s Eve specials or airing re-runs.  And, what a way to start off with Dan Soder, one of NYC’s most highly regarded up and coming talents, appearing on Conan.

TBS 11PM tonight. Make sure to catch it tonight.

This Better Be Funny Ep. 56 in the Flappers Yoo Hoo “Green Room”

This Better Be Funny goes to the green room of a comedy club like the days before podcasts.

Following a performance from Jeremy Paul, both him and Jake partake in the tradition of hanging in the green room at a comedy club. Though, it should be noted the YooHoo Room at Flappers Burbank doesn’t have a green room so much as a sitting area near a bathroom. All the guests are unplanned, but some include Jerry Brandt, Chris Adams, Kris Rubio (who Jeremy is apparently related to), and other such comedians that at one time, years ago, represented comedy in Long Beach, CA, which hardly exists anymore. Also, there are random comedians who argue about Mensa, then appropriately get debated with.

And yes, Jake did the intro while in his car because it’s Monday, you know.

Jimmy Kimmel Live Finally Moves Up to 11:35PM

Hopefully, and we say that very liberally here, nothing will really change content and tone wise about Jimmy Kimmel Live when he moves up to 11:35PM tonight on ABC. So many shows and hosts have had to step back in their persona and styles of humor for moving up an hour, in our opinion to their detriment.

Also, Kimmel not changing a thing except for when he airs would be the best way to make good on all the Leno trash talk he’s been drumming up recently.

James Adomian Writes a Tribute to The Late Huell Howser

One of California’s icons was, whether it be surprising or not, one who marveled at every single bit of it whether it be a tortilla factory or an outdoor bed in the suburbs. This man, Huell Howser, host of California’s Gold, sadly passed away yesterday and the incredibly funny James Adomian, who has done a spot-on impersonation of him for years, wrote a nice tribute in the LA Weekly.

Hey! Who Exactly Is Writing These Reviews of a Banana Slicer?

What looks like to be a real handy kitchen utensil has, apparently, been the inspiration for some really funny reviews of the Hutzler 571 Banana Slicer on Amazon. So funny so that perhaps the reviewers are either some jokesters with some spare time on their hands or some people who really need to go outside and have some human interaction.

About every other one is pretty fun, so give them a read right now.

Kirk Fox To Use DNA Testing and Lie Detectors on Daytime Television

We know that your knee jerk reaction to DNA testing, lie detectors, and daytime television is perhaps ironic at best.

As To Be Expected, Jimmy Kimmel’s 11:35PM Debuts Tops Leno and Letterman

It is great to see the ratings were greatly in favor of Jimmy Kimmel Live over The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Late Show with David Letterman last night, but is the start of a new trend or just everyone coming out on opening night? Also, with the upcoming advent of Nielsen’s Nielsen Twitter rating, will Kimmel have an even greater edge?

We say, as far as online presence goes, yes (Kimmel has a big online following that he constantly interacts with while Letterman doesn’t even has own YouTube channel), but only the coming months will tell.

Coming Soon: Funny Or Die’s Production of (Hopefully) Memorable Comedies

The comparisons to National Lampoon have already begun and we’re hoping that rather than try to live up to National Lampoon’s once revered reputation as a comedy film brand, just try to make something really hilarious that ends up being quotable.

By the way, with Funny or Die, that could very well happen.

The Days in The Life of Rory Scovel of 2012

January 10, 2013
Uncategorized

Last year, the hilarious Rory Scovel made a resolution to film himself in some or many capacities at least once a day in 2012. What has come is a two giant music montages that are pretty personal, in-depth journeys of what the life of a comedian like Rory Scovel is like. Performing every night, flying out almost every other one, being in random places, cities and nature alike, hanging in green rooms of CBS or at a black box theater, running into other such comedians and brand new ones all the same, etc.

If you wonder what comedians lives are actually like here are 365 days of being Rory Scovel in parts one and two.

“Wrong” Might Be Seinfeld Done by David Lynch

It’s still hitting that soft existentialist note that Seinfeld had mastered, but with a radical, seemingly drug-induced journey filled with unexplained phenomena like dog telepathy. What are we talking about? It’s the trailer for the upcoming trippy indie comedy movie “Wrong” with very intriguing cameos from an accented William Fitchner and Steve Little.

Give it a watch for a mind bender and a good laugh.

Silver Linings Playbook, Django Unchained, and The Simpsons Get Oscar Nominations

January 10, 2013
Uncategorized

The nominations for this year’s highly anticipated Academy Awards (made even more anticipated because their new voting system experienced severe glitches) were just released this morning. We’re glad to see that both Silver Linings Playbook and Django Unchained get a handful of nominations as well as Moonrise Kingdom, The Sessions, and The Simpsons short film getting nominated as well.

Still, it’s a largely drama dominated field and who knows if straight comedies will ever get their due. We consider Silver Linings and Django hyphenated comedies (dark romantic dramedy, action-revenge-comedy, etc.), which seems to be the formula of getting the Academy’s attention. For instance (and we’re not one to “kick rocks” on the behalf of other people), 7 Psychopaths deserved a screenplay nomination, but Martin McDonagh’s highly underrated sophomore effort as a writer/director goes unnoticed.

Silver Linings Playbook-Best Picture, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Supporting Actor (Rober DeNiro), Best Supporting Actress (Jacki Weaver) Best Adapted Screenplay (David O. Russell), Best Editing (Jay Cassidy & Crispin Struthers)

Django Unchained-Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Cristoph Waltz), Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino), Best Cinematography (Robert Richardson)

Moonrise Kingdom-Best Original Screenplay (Wes Anderson & Roman Coppola)

The Sessions-Best Supporting Actress (Helen Hunt)

Maggie Simpson in the “Longest Daycare”-Best Animated Short (David Silverman)

Please Watch Steven Wright on Craig Ferguson Before CBS Takes It Down

January 10, 2013
Uncategorized

One of our favorite things in comedy is Steven Wright as a guest on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Every time Wright comes on, it’s 10 minutes of comedic magic between him and Ferguson trying to out weird each other. It’s hilarious.

However, the social media geniuses at CBS have opted to not post clips in one easy place to find and share the regular hilarity that Craig Ferguson dishes out because, well, we don’t know why. That’s why we’ve resorted to posting this pirated clip that will undoubtedly taken down soon because Steven Wright and Craig Ferguson together are really funny and wanted none of you to miss it, like a network should.
