This Better Be Funny Ep. 53 with Rory Scovel
This week’s This Better Be Funny is with Rory Scovel!
In the never ending struggle for Jake to keep this podcast classy and enlightening and Jeremy to accentuate the way he refers to various genitalia, guest and hysterical comedian Rory Scovel bridges the gap between the two. Scovel juggled discussing the possibility of living in a simulated world, etc. and commenting on Jeremy’s fascination with women on their daily afternoon strolls. Does classy or blue win? Listen and decide. The world depends on it (the world of this podcast with comedians somewhere outside riffing).

Having made a successful test run a few weeks ago, Hot Tub has officially transplanted itself from NYC to LA as a weekly show. They will be going weekly starting Mon. Jan. 7th 8PM at The Virgil (Virgil x Santa Monica Blvd. near Hollywood) and you can watch it for only $5. This first show will feature Brett Gelman, Jen Kirkman, Nick Kroll, Rat Bastard, and Thomas Lennon and tickets are already on sale.
After you’ve gotten tickets, you can follow Hot Tub on Tumblr and Twitter for all future updates, so get it on it already.
Jon Dore and Rory Scovel team up again and are absolutely hilarious like the last time they were on Conan. We’ll just say this as to not give anything away, then you should really watch it: Give Dore and Scovel their own show already. What’s taking so long?

Jack Black Producing Web Series with Yahoo
This is a very interesting move from Jack Black as he seems to be delving back into comedy full force with two Tenacious D records released and a couple projects in development. Glad to see it’s all happening
This latest episode of Joe DeRosa’s Official Comedy web series with Nikki Glaser We Should Break Up features a great reminder that there is no way great to break up with someone, especially if you just try to wait for a great way to come along right after a holiday weekend. It’s great to see comedy like this is continuing even when Louie is gone until 2014.
Watch the break up of ‘We Should Break Up’ here.
There is no real guide for how to do comedy on national television after highly publicized national tragedies. Often, it’s confusing as to what to do to make people laugh that want to laugh and where to go. Late night talk show hosts often bear a perceived responsibility to guide what the conversation, comedically, is supposed to be about such events like the recent shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Interestingly enough, Both Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel, with their respective late night show, decided to forego trying to dissect the events and went to their strong suits of absurd and silly comedy. Watch a clip featuring a Christmas character that only Conan would come up with and Kimmel showing off NSFW looking Christmas lights. Whether ou disagree with their move, both clips are pretty funny.

The 5 Most Intentionally Funny Videos at The Nerdist 12/18
This week’s picks for the 5 MIFV go from absurd to absurd to more absurd with nothing but funny in between from people like Pete Holmes, Chris Thayer, Robert Smigel, and more. Check it out at the link.
If you wish to be considered for a 5 MIFV at the Nerdist in the future, please read the rules carefully at the bottom of the post for submission details.
Often times, how funny a comedian is can be when they deal with unforeseen and rather unfortunate situations right before they hit the stage with little time to process. For example, Nick Turner locked his keys in his car before going up at Wyatt Cenac’s Night Train in Brooklyn, did his whole set about it while the car was still running, and did great.
We have known for a while that Nick Turner is undeniably funny and we hope now that you do too.

The anticipated scripted series surrounding comedian Jim Jefferies finally comes to cable next month. FX’s Legit premieres Jan. 17th 10:30PM. Follow @LegitOnFX for more updates

Twitter has just expanded to have an archive of your own Twitter account. This way you can go back to the first “joke” you ever tweeted after spending a good five minutes debating what it should be, then realizing, only now that it reads way different than you thought it would.
FX Gives ‘The League’ a Fifth Season
Yet another great move by one of the best networks for comedy right now, FX.
Comedian Ted Alexandro, who has made numerous late night appearances, actually started out as a jazz pianist. Much of what he went though he still carries on to comedy, even up into and past opening for Louis CK at Carnegie Hall.
Watch him talk about that and more on this latest episode of Scott Moran’s Modern Comedian.
This holiday season, Conan is pulling out the crowd favorites for stand-up. First, Jon Dore & Rory Scovel, now, one of our favorites, Kyle Kinane. Watch his second appearance on Conan here.
‘Anchorman 2’ Set to Release 1 Year From Today
There should be a lot of fun promotion leading up to this, which hopefully include several reenactments of networks news outlet fights in the streets of various parts of San Diego.

On this, RVC, one of several series that TJ Miller has going, TJ Miller, Nick Vatterott, Ron Lynch, and more all play members of a failing home shopping network. Of course, with it being TJ Miller, it gets a little more ridiculous than that, especially in this episode where there is incredibly NSFW scenes with squids and other animal parts at a restaurant with a enthusiastic Bobby Lee egging them on.
Watch all of this madness here.

Rebel Wilson to Host MTV Movie Awards
Along with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the Golden Globes next year, awards season is looking all the better as does the career of Rebel Wilson. Rebel does her round of hosting the MTV Movie Awards on Sun. Apr. 14th 9PM.
First, Seth Rogen and James Franco make an announcement about their movie about the end of the world as the world doesn’t end today, then Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen & James Franco all go by their real names and show what could be one great apocalyptic comedy in “This Is The End”.
Amazon Studios Making Web Series From The Onion, The Grawlix, Kristen Schaal, Gary Trudeau and More
Rather than dipping their toes into making content, Amazon has started Amazon Studios and put money behind some quality comedy projects. Six projects got the greenlight, which include ones from award winning cartoonist Gary Trudeau, The Onion, Denver’s favorite comedy sons, The Grawlix, Kristen Schaal (in a producing role), John Ross Bowie, and more.
This should be on your most anticipated comedy of 2013 list. You are making one, right?
