Take a Hilarious Tour Through Comedy History with Mel Brooks on Jimmy Kimmel Live

November 16, 2012
Uncategorized

Mel Brooks stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new DVD box set of The Incredible Mel Brooks: An Irresistible Collection of Unhinged Comedy, which you should pick up based on this interview alone. He talks how he got notes on Blazing Saddles, gives notes to Kimmel on his unfriend sketch, and is just overall hilarious.

Watch the rest of the interview past the jump and hope Brooks does more late night appearances for his HBO special on Dec. 10th, Mel Brooks Strikes Back!.

Anyone Want to Be a Hero for Comedy and Put Up the Chris Gethard Show for Two Months?

Anyone Want to Be a Hero for Comedy and Put Up the Chris Gethard Show for Two Months?

The public access network, Manhattan Neighborhood Network is going to renovate, displacing the wonderful Chris Gethard Show for several weeks. We know that we’re based in LA, but we also do know that plenty of NYC folks read this blog and it would be really amazing if you could help a show, arguably one of the funniest, stay alive by giving it a place (or thinking of one).

Good For Letterman For Having Carmen Lynch on The Late Show

November 17, 2012
Uncategorized

The stand-up sets on Letterman today are still a far cry from what they were in the last century (i.e. no mic or mic stand, stationary in one place, etc.), but having hilarious people on like NYC’s Carmen Lynch does make up for that.

Here’s her set that you should all watch.

Here’s 90’s Nostalgia We Can Get Behind: Key & Peele Parody The Power Rangers

November 17, 2012
Uncategorized

Of course, Key & Peele call it ‘Power Falcons’, but it’s funny all the same that they pick on one of the more obvious gaffes by the team responsible for adapting the series for America. Also, this is 90’s nostalgia we’re behind because it’s really funny, not just remembering the 90’s for the sake of the 90’s.

Have a hardy nostalgic laugh this Saturday morning by watching it here.

Guess We Won’t Be Getting Those Maria Bamford Black Friday Commercials

November 18, 2012
Uncategorized

It’s that time of year, well, would be that time of year when we’d all, in the midst of panicking about various Thanksgiving plans, be comforted at the sights and sounds of Maria Bamford prepping for Black Friday sales at Target. We dare say it was almost a perennial tradition in comedy, but, alas, according to this tweet, this great ad campaign will not continue.

Really, there’s only one thing we can do in this situation, which is get something nice and warm to sip and watch Bamford’s Target ads on YouTube again (or really anything Maria Bamford does because she’s hilarious and life-affirming).

‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Needs To Be The Next Movie You See

November 19, 2012
Uncategorized

We saw Silver Linings Playbook last night suspecting that they’re might be then the trailer was suggesting, especially being from David O. Russell and our instincts were absolutely right. We’re not going to delve into specifics, but we’ll this is how romantic comedies should be made and if you hadn’t any doubts about Bradley Cooper’s acting or Jennifer Lawrence going the route of the tentpole summer blockbuster, or waiting for the Robert DeNiro that you came to know in The Godfather and Taxi Driver, this is the movie to put all those doubts to rest. Even Chris Tucker’s supporting role is killer, especially if you just recently watched him in drag in The Fifth Element.

Did we mention that it’s absolutely hilarious, heart-wrenching, life-affirming, and a reason why you’ll want to dance more often? Go see it now, here’s LA showtimes.

Even If Nolan’s Batman is Finished, ‘Badman’ From Pete Holmes, Matt McCarthy, and Oren Brimer Isn’t

Even though Christopher Nolan will probably never do another Batman movie though fans and studios alike would love him to do so, we’re just happy to see that Pete Holmes, Matt McCarthy, Oren Brimer, and Alison Becker in Marion Cotillard’s role made this latest parody of The Dark Knight Rises that isn’t about Bane’s voice.

This Better Be Funny Ep. 49 with Andrew Solmssen

November 20, 2012
Uncategorized

This week’s This Better Be Funny:

Jake and Jeremy enjoy a nice afternoon in West Hollywood chatting with nerd extraordinaire and very funny comedian Andrew Solmssen on anything from The Bridge, a documentary on suicide off the Golden Gate Bridge, to bizarre editions of the Garfield comic strip, to the Winchester Mystery House, and everything in between and beyond. It gets dark, absurd, and a little historical, but definitely fun when Jeremy gets offended by a dig at the Garfield movie.
