Score Another Hilarious Music Video for Tom Scharpling, This Time with Ben Gibbard

November 1, 2012
Uncategorized

Tom Scharpling has carved quite niche for himself keeping the music video still relevant with how funny and great they are. This latest one is with Ben Gibbard going solo from his band Death Cab for Cutie and features Kurt Braunohler as some slimy marketing guy.

In short, Scharpling should definitely release a DVD collection of his music videos.

Stephen Merchant’s ‘Hello Ladies’ Goes to Series at HBO

Stephen Merchant finally goes outside of the workplace and gets a little more autobiographical with this latest series that just got picked up at HBO. ‘Hello Ladies’ is centered around Merchant trying to date in LA. From the sounds of it, it might be a little opposite of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but not really.

Hey Network/Cable TV, Is It Really So Preposterous To Pick Up The Chris Gethard Show?

Jimmy Fallon Confronts Colin Quinn About Twitter Fights

On last night’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Colin Quinn was a guest and, as Fallon has fallen victim to being made fun of by @iamcolinquinn, Jimmy took it up on himself to ask Colin right then and there what all of this sarcastic tweeting is about. What results is pretty great, even if it’s not the answer we’re all looking for.

Also, one of our favorite NYC venues, The Creek and The Cave, got a big shout out, where Colin can be currently seen performing.

Good Call SNL for Having Louis C.K. Host

November 4, 2012
Uncategorized

We’re not going to delve into an in-depth analysis of the Louis C.K. hosted episode of Saturday Night Live because it doesn’t need one. CK was funny. The episode was funny even with C.K. doing the one sketch he admitted that he hated on Fallon. We’re just glad to see someone that has comedy as their primary occupation hosting SNL.

We just wanted to make sure that you see the Lincoln/Louie mash-up/parody that is comedic genius… and his monologue… and the final sketch with Kate McKinnon.

OK, just watch the whole thing here. Can’t wait to the ratings numbers this episode pulled.

Watch Tony Clifton Cover Chicago’s ‘Beginnings’

November 4, 2012

This Chicago cover was played at the top of the show that we went to during Tony Clifton’s run at The Comedy Store earlier this year. Many who just turn off from Clifton for his vulgar/line-crossing humor, we feel, miss the wondrous experience of seeing the iconic grungy lounge singer next to one hell of a band and damn fine dancers. In short, it was one of the best shows we saw this year.

See what you missed (from the comfort of your computer or smartphone or tablet).

No Surprise Here That a Pay-To-Play-or-Vote Awards Is Not Good

Here’s just another unfortunate case of the name of our fair Los Angeles being co-opted into something designed, whether intentional or not, to support the stereotype that LA is a hollow den of wolves and sharks waiting to taking advantage of you. It’s unfortunate that it happens, but it happens wherever there’s a wealth of both talent and people wanting desperately to succeed.

Just keep in mind that the awards that mean anything in comedy are ones you weren’t trying to win and just were being undeniably funny, not the ones set up where people have to pay to vote.

Go Vote, Then Watch The Chris Gethard Election Special

The Chris Gethard Show’s election coverage will be 12 hours long on MNN and streaming online and definitely better than watching news anchors and political pundits making weird faces as news comes in. Also, it’ll probably one of the best bets to make you feel better after you vote and realize that the electoral college and the two-party system still exist in 2012.

It starts in less than half an hour and you could win stuff.

1. Tenacious D is Doing a Jazz Vinyl Only Album 2. Watch Them Do It on Ferguson

Apparently, several weeks ago, it was announced that Tenacious D was following up Rize of the Fenix, a veritable return of the rock comedy gods, with the release of a jazz album only to be made on vinyl. Here’s a post  on a metal rock blog to prove it.

Still don’t believe it? Watch Jack Black and Kyle Gass bring the cool(?) with an excerpt of their 11 min. + song off of ‘Simply Jazz’ to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Tom Shillue Starts 12 Album Over 12 Month Journey Today with ‘Better Stronger Faster’

November 6, 2012
Uncategorized

As we reported previously, comedian storyteller Tom Shillue is releasing 12 separate comedy albums over the next 12 months. He starts this enormous undertaking (just think about how crazy everyone called Louis C.K. for doing a special a year) today by releasing the first album ‘Better Stronger Faster’.

It would be a great pick for it’s potential collector value (especially when all 12 have been released) and also because Tom Shillue is a really funny guy who can tell a damn fine story, of which three are on this album because there are only three tracks with two that are intriguingly over 10 minutes.
