IFC Starts Adopt-A-Comic Program By Taking in Chris Gethard

August 20, 2012
Uncategorized

Further dedicating themselves to comedy, IFC has initiated an “Adopt-A-Comic” program where they will show their appreciation to some of their favorite comics by having them be “part of their family” for a year. What that exactly means/will they end up getting a show on IFC has yet to be seen, but we’re certainly thrilled at their first choice with Chris Gethard.

We’re sure they’ll have more photos of Chris like the one above for 364 more days to come

Music Videos Directed by Tom Scharpling and The Sklar Brothers to Brighten Your Week

August 20, 2012
Uncategorized

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen some stellar music videos filled with comedian cameos, but, luckily, Tom Scharpling has one where Laura Linney plays a robotic Aimee Mann under the advisement of John Hodgman for Aimee Mann’s Charmer and The Sklar Brothers directed The Sheepdogs’ The Way It Is with Jon Dore and Rory Scovel yelling at a little league baseball team that’s playing a bunch of drunken 30 year olds.

Apparently, surrogate androids and ridiculously unfair baseball games are a great way to start the week.

Lewis Black’s In God We Rust to Air on Comedy Central and On Sale on 9/11

August 20, 2012
Uncategorized

Previously premiering on Epix, which you might not have, Lewis Black’s In God We Rust is coming to Comedy Central on Sept. 7th at MIDNIGHT. After it airs, it will be on sale on DVD and CD from Comedy Central on 9/11 or Patriot Day, whether you think that’s appropriate or not.

Not that it will play during the special, but we can hear AC/DC’s Back in Black already.

College Humor Leading the Battle of Comedy vs. Malaria

August 20, 2012
Uncategorized

College Humor is doing a benefit of sorts by putting on several videos at their site with the likes of Ed Helms, Nick Offerman, Joss Whedon, Reggie Watts, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Tony Hale, Weird Al Yankovic, Paul Scheer, Nick Kroll, Garfunkel & Oates and many more in order to fight malaria.

The Malarious campaign gets all of those names above to do some crazy funny stuff that you can see for a donation of $1 or more in order to get combat the disease that you probably thought was gone since the 90’s.

R.I.P. Phyllis Diller

Pioneering comedian Phyllis Diller passed away this morning here in LA. Hopefully, this will distract from the inevitable Tony Scott jokes that hundreds of people are trying to write right now.

‘The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best’ Is What We’re Waiting to See in Theaters Next

August 21, 2012
Uncategorized

After successfully touring the festival circuit, we just caught wind of this delightful buddy-road-indie-band comedy The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best, whose trailer gave us a good hard laugh in a landscape of comedy trailers devoid of that. A film by Ryan O’Nan (writes, directs, and does all the original songs), who also stars along with Michael Weston and Arielle Kebbel, The Brooklyn Brothers looks like it will be a welcome addition to the small table of comedy band duos.

In theaters Sept. 21st.

Pre-Order DC Pierson’s New Book and DC Will Put Your Name In a Rap Song

August 21, 2012
Uncategorized

The very funny DC Pierson has another novel to follow up The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep and Never Had To called, Crap Kingdom coming out in March of next year. The comedic fantasy adventure book is available for pre-order, which, if you choose to do, DC will put your name in a rap song that he will record soon.

For $17.99, that all sounds like a steal.

The Late Night Gauntlet Has Been Thrown Down as Jimmy Kimmel Moving to 11:30PM

WIth Leno having to take a pay cut, this could be part of a late night talk show planetary alignment that will break the wall down between ratings on television and presence on the Internet.

At least, we’d hope that would happen sometime soon.

Rob Delaney to Release His “Live at the Bowery Ballroom” Online

August 21, 2012
Uncategorized

If you want to think of it this way, Rob Delaney’s Live at the Bowery Ballroom will be a significant test of the “Louis CK model” of self-producing and distributing a stand-up special. Rob Delaney has a huge online following with little of that derived from his TV appearances including interviews when he was trying to sue Kim Kardashian for her divorce and reading tweets on The Daily Habit. Also, you’ll get to hear the Twitter King (as crowned by National Lampoon) to speak beyond 140 characters outside of catching him live around the country, or, most recently, in England.

Live at the Bowery Ballroom will be available for $5, Sept. 4th at RobDelaney.com.
