Though announced that it was closing its doors for good in September 2020, Cap City Comedy Club has had a reversal of fortune and will be reopening sometime this Fall.
The legendary club had served audiences from Austin and all around for over 3 decades, but suffered devastating financial losses due to the continued lockdown as a result of COVID-19. Thusly, the decision for a permanent closure was previously made.
Right at the moment, live comedy is happening in Austin, TX (though COVID-19 still runs rampant throughout America and both Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan recently contracted the virus while performing in Austin) and some comedians have made their way over there, even from LA, to do in-person shows. Austin has had a robust comedy scene for more than few years now and that is even under more of a spotlight since LA, NYC, and Chicago are not nearly as open as Texas is.
Whether or not the rollout of the vaccine improves will obviously determine reopening for comedy clubs/venues, but, at the very least, it’s great to hear that Cap City, one of comedians’ favorite comedy clubs will survive to the other side of the pandemic.
We're excited to announce that @CapCityComedy will be re-opening its doors this Fall!
We will continue our tradition of booking national acts, Austin-based comedians & cutting-edge up + comers, now in a new location at The Domain
