The brilliant high concept sketch/musical/theater company Lost Moon Radio is back with another run of their latest show, Lost Moon Radio Summer Block Party over at the Lyric Hyperion. If you’re one of the uninitiated from not having see them all around LA over the last several years or hosting the LA Weekly Theater Awards or on TruTV or, most recently, on NBC’s Bring The Funny, then this is a great chance for you to get in one of our favorite groups in town.

They’ve got four dates:
Aug. 15th 9PM
Aug. 16th 9PM
Aug. 17th 7PM & 9PM

Tickets are $20 and you really ought to get them here.

The Lyric LA on La Brea Just Reopened

The Goddamn Comedy Jam and great comedy specials for Henry Phillips and Laurie Kilmartin all took place near WeHo at an intimate, yet kind-of-spacious theatre called The Lyric (not to be confused with the lovely The Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Silverlake).

For bureaucratic red tape reasons, they had to close up shop for awhile, but they just reopened their doors for all sorts of events. We’ll keep you in the loop about our favorites.

Hayworth Theater To Be Revived as a Multi-Purpose Venue by “Dynasty Typewriter” and Former Hollywood Improv Booker Jamie Flam

Though LA is losing the Steve Allen Theater in a few weeks and Cinefamily is closed indefinitely pending an internal investigation of the extent of sexual harassment and assault, the city is gaining two new venues where primo comedy will get to live.

Yesterday, we tipped you off to the rebirth of Echoes. Today, we can tell you about the revival of The Hayworth Theater as restored classical theater (restoration done by building owners Jenji Kohan and Christopher Noxon architect Linda Brettler) near MacArthur Park that is aiming to bringing premium comedy, music, podcasts, variety shows, screenings, etc. to LA’s Eastside.

Thanks to Jamie Flam, a former booker of the Hollywood Improv and one of the most fun loving people we know, and his Wes-Anderson-esque fake company Dynasty Typewriter, a whole new wave of live shows is set to come in the next few months.

See Jamie tell you himself in this pretty swell Kickstarter video and read Julie Seabough’s write-up of the whole affair in LA Weekly.

Speaking of Kickstarter, “Dynasty Typewriter” is looking for $100K by November 16th to spend on A/V installation, operation costs for the first 3 months, and staffing via this Kickstarter campaign. Knowing what Jamie is capable of and having been to the space throughout the years, we definitely think it’s worth backing.

Join the Dynasty (and support what will be a great indie venue) here.

New Steve Martin Play to Debut at San Diego’s Old Globe

Calling all Steve Martin fans (i.e. most of you).

For the many folks who wish that Steve Martin would even just metaphorically dip his toe back into comedy, you got your wish granted in the form of an upcoming comedy stage production called Meteor Shower.

It’s an absurdist comedy that hones in on the potentially unspoken weak points of a marriage. Those are all the details that have been announced thus far, but you can look for it to open in previews on Jul. 30th, 2016, then run through the summer after opening night on Aug. 7th at San Diego’s Old Globe.

Nerdist Theater Beyond Wednesdays

Nerdist Theater Beyond Wednesdays

Through the link is a listing of this week Nerdist Theater events.  That’s right, there’s more than just “Meltdown” on Wednesdays.  In fact, so many people missed out on the amazing Drennon Davis and his Imaginary Radio show last Friday, right before the world was supposed to end.

So, what I’m saying… is maybe you’ll want to check out Harmontown with “Community” creator Dan Harmon or a live recording of the Nerdist Podcast or the amazing open mic hosted by Matt Mira and Paul Cibis or really anything else in the back room of Meltdown Comics that isn’t on a Wednesday.
